2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
Rear step bumpers; help me understand differences
I’m seeing a few versions of rear step bumpers for the defender. A NAS version and maybe a LR genuine version and maybe a third? Which did safety devices make? Want to be sure I know the difference before I spend my

The genuine Land Rover NAS step has the rubber matting on the top. These were made by Styleauto in the UK for Land Rover and are E marked and type approved.

I've have the LR NAS Bumper on mine since new (2015).
Replaced once under warranty (rust).
More recently resprayed by me - looking good so far.

If I could travel back in time, I wouldn't bother with it. Much too high to be useful as a step (I'm 6'2") and the towbar plate is too high as well.

We have the genuine LR step and its works very well for our use, camping and touring etc ..

However I did have it galvanised when it was fitted and never had any trouble since as our previous 110 step was exactly the same but developed rust at a early stage so I had to keep on top of the care of it with painting and wax oil use to keep it looking good

Same here as I would like one of these too but have seen various options from various suppliers with quite a wide price range.

Any recommendation on specific suppliers at all please?

I'm not an expert on the "NAS rear step" (I personally don't like them, sorry!) but I presume that a genuine North American one will have a 2" receiver for the coupling, whereas an EU-spec "NAS style" step will be drilled for a BS Au24 hitch mount (albeit probably with hybrid holes to allow a BS Au 114a coupling to be fitted in one of two locations).

I don't believe that a genuine NAS step with the receive hitch was ever sold by LR in the EU, certainly not the UK, due to type approval issues.

Yep, I'm certainly talking about the "version" with a tow ball possibility rather than the receiver, although they are available but I assume "Not for road use"....
