Integrated key & remote - does anyone make one ?
One thing I really don't like is the 1970 Leyland key and separate fob - so was wondering if anyone made an all in one key that could accept the internal of the existing fob, or failing that a straight replacement?

Askde the same question to a company called remote key, this was the reply I got:

We have just made a prototype and it is being tested, it will not be out till the summer, keep an eye on the website
I have attached a picture of the key, it uses a Renault commercial key head which is very robust we have put a defender key blade in, nothing exciting but it will be better than the 18 year old design you have at the moment, it will require programming with specialist equipment, but the next thing we are working on is we will supply it with a self programming plug, all this is prototype, but hopefully we will have it on sale later this year.

Thank you

I would add I am not associated with the company nor have I ever used them, but if they get the cost right I for one will be buying one!

One thing to consider though, keeping the key and the fob separate, with the fob in your pocket while the key is on the ignition can help prevent carjacking... Whistle

Carjacking, in a civilised country such as Britain, surly not.

You would have thought that it would/might be possible to do something with the disco2 key, as that's integrated and uses the 10AS alarm the same as defenders.

i think the steering lock is totally different though isn't it? wonder if the barrels can be interchanged?

The lock barrel probably isn't an issue, since the Disco2 key can be rebladed. The induction coil on the column might be an issue, but again I imagine that they work in a similar way and so can probably be made to work.

An interesting idea, but if it was that simple why hasn't Land-Rover done it already?

I just got a Ford something-or-other econobox as a courtesy car from the dealer, and it has a very slim integrated remote/key.

Just checked... it is a Fusion.

If Ford can do it for an awful little car like the Fusion, why can't LR do it?
