Black Smoke on Full Throttle
Hi

I have black smoke on full throttle on my 2.4 Puma. It's a 130. I replaced the injectors about 30k kms ago as a precaution (there was no issue). I have since replaced the VCV with a new Denso unit. I have also removed the snorkel as I thought it could be restricting air flow.

I don't remember the black smoke from the past (more than 10k kms ago)

Below is what my Ultra Gauge shows. Fuel Rail PSI can go up to 23,000PSI.

Has it been tuned at all? Sometimes people can go over the top.

The other thing is to check the intercooler and turbo hose for wear or splits.

Where abouts in Zambia are you? We were out there a couple of years back before covid and looking forward to getting back when things settle.

Longer term plan is to ship my 130 out to Southern Africa for a wander.

Mine was a bit smoky under load. What cured it was a combination of two things...

1. Replaced injector seals. Existing ones had failed and were leaking. I think this was throwing off the diesel/air mixture somehow? Not sure exactly how, whether the ECU was overcompensating fuel or the leak was throwing off the mixture as air escaped from the cylinder.

2. Fitted catch tank. When the injector seals were leaking it was venting gas/oil via the rocker cover breather which goes back into the inlet and burns blue/black. Disconnect the positive crankcase pressure return hose from the inlet temporarily and see whether it improves the situation > 110 XS Double Cab

I did fit new genuine injector seals and new bolts and torqued and turned them as required. How else could I diagnose leaking injector seals: tapping noise or blowby from the oil filler cap? 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

I had this smoke steam for a few days. Cleaning the MAP sensor (which was totally clogged) sorted it. It is a 5 minute job.

No, it's back. Vastly improved, but it is still happening in 6th. The search continues.
