It may well be that early Defenders had aluminium covers, possibly plastic on TD5 (or facelifted TD5) onwards?

Certainly I do not believe that a pre-Defender every had plastic.

I believe that these are what you need:-

(These are what I fitted to my TDCi Double-Cab after a little modification).

I have seen aluminium rear light covers on as late at 2009 HT. It was an ex utilities van, perhaps makes a difference. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The pair that i know are are definately Defender were from a 55 plate ex-SSE 110, the others will be earlier so could be Defender or Series but are the same as the later ones.

The bodyshop hadn't done a safari roof before, and I don't think they want to do one again!
They stripped it down and were surprised how many rivets hold it as well as the spacers.
It also took a lot of prep as the old orange dayglo police stripes were painted on under some thick metal paint which had been used to cover them up at some point.

I replaced the safari roof spacers as the originals had discoloured and would have stood out against the white paint, which even after the overpriced plastic rear badge, were crazy money.
If I'd had spare time between work and two kids under 5 I would have made some for it, as they were £110 plus another £15 for the rubber washers and another £25 for new bolts...

Even after the heavy rain this weekend it doesn't appear to leak inside from anywhere! I can see a small amount of daylight at the leading edge of the passenger door top/bottom which needs sealing, but other than that it's amazingly watertight. ‘68 V8 hybrid
