Help with clutches
Hello, I want to change my clutch kit.
My truck is a Land Rover Defender 110 HARD TOP 300TDI. It was produced on 1997. The engine is 300tdi. The gearbox is R 380 .
Please answer the following questions:

A) Which clutch is preferable / you would use /, for what reasons :
1) Land Rover Performance Clutch Kit - OE STC8358
manufactured by the company SACHS : https://www.sachsperformance.com/en/clutch...00950701-s

OR
2) POWERspec TDI 200/300tdi
manufactured by the company LOF clutches : https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...ty-clutch/

OR
3) KLR24006-1A   Xtreme Outback Clutch Kit-100 Series
manifactured by the company    Xtreme Outback Clutch : https://www.xtremeoutback.com.au/en/catalogue - №KLR24006-1A

B) For LOF clutches:

1) What is the % higher transmitted torque of the POWERspec TDI 200/300 tdi kit compared to OEM? https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...ty-clutch/

2) What is the torque capacity of the POWERspec TDI 200/300 tdi kit in Nm ? https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...ty-clutch/

3) What is the clamping force /eject fors/ of the POWERspec TDI 200/300 tdi kit in N or kg ?
https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...ty-clutch/

4) What will be the weight of the pedal if I install /put/ a 2.8 TGV HS International POWERspec kit - (Also fits TDI) and a DEFENDER POWER MASTER BUNDLE Spring and Master Cylinder on my truck?
https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...rspec-kit/

https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/peda...-cylinder/

5) The weight of the pedal from point 4) is equal to or less or greater than if I mount /put/ on my truck POWERspec TDI 200/300 tdi kit and Defender POWER MASTER BUNDLE Spring and Master Cylinder?
https://lofclutches.com/shop/clutches/clut...ty-clutch/

Hi,

I'm afraid I can only answer number 4.

"4) What will be the weight of the pedal if I install /put/ a 2.8 TGV HS International POWERspec kit - (Also fits TDI) and a DEFENDER POWER MASTER BUNDLE Spring and Master Cylinder on my truck?"

I have a 300Tdi, with some engine upgrades, so I changed to the kit above while all the work was being done.

The weight of the clutch pedal is 'easy' - not quite 'car like' but very easy to use.

I had been wondering about a Redbooster (my wife drives the Defender too sometimes*) but having fitted the LOF spring and power master, there's just no need.

I will try to write this very simply so it is not confusing when translated.

I have a 1994 300tdi 110 defender and it is very similar to your Defender.

I replaced the clutch a few years ago after the friction plate springs failed and dropped out. I fitted an OEM equivalent from Paddocks Landrover spares and it has been perfect. I do have a habit of racing away from the traffic lights and also drive off-road sometimes so the clutch works hard but never shows any signs of being weak.

All the people that drive my 110 say they are surprised by how light the clutch pedal feels compared to their Landrovers and after driving their vehicles I agree. As far as I know, my vehicle is completely standard.

This is the clutch kit I fitted - https://www.paddockspares.com/stc8358bb-st...aring.html

Clutch was fitted in November 2016 and has since done 15000 miles.

Just fit a LOF power spec or 2.8 if you have a modified engine job done

Just to add....
My previous clutch was also very light/easy before the failure and worked perfectly despite unknown mileage and a leaking main bearing oil seal which was covering the clutch housing in oil and detritus.

I don't think there is any need for heavy duty clutches if you drive correctly and have a standard engine. As with all things mechanical there is a need for a little sympathy and an understanding of what the component has to do!

My 90 had Valeo installed at the factory when the 90 was built. It lasted 128k miles, and 30 years. But the springs were about to fall off. I could press the clutch pedal with 2 fingers (pedal box well lubricated). Old pressure plate is still in perfect condition.
I am replacing it with Valeo kit. It comes with an NSK thrust bearing. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Hello,
Please answer me if your 2.8 TGV HS clutch engages (includes) smoothly, gradually? Or abruptly, with a tug? I ask because the springs are stronger, tighter.

Did the noise from the gears of the gearbox with TGV clutch increase? Has the frequency of "gearbox rattling, chatter" increased?

Sorry for the repetitions, the clarifications. I translate with Google translator. I don't know if he translates exactly.

No problem. Happy to help.

The clutch engages fine. It's smooth and progressive. Like I said, quite like car. I'm sure the pedal spring and master cylinder help with that. There is no 'tug' or snatching on taking up drive.

Overall it does not feel like a strong or heavy clutch when driving.

However - you are right to mention the gears chattering - it does chatter a lot more than it used to. This happens once the gearbox oil has warmed up and the engine is idling. It happens all the time in that situation. Also, this is not an old, worn box, it's a newly-reconditioned box from Ashcrofts. It's just the strength of the clutch making it chatter I think. Although I do believe some of the R380 boxes are worse for chatter than others. Donald

Many thanks to everyone who took part!

Special thanks to you, Donald, because with the comprehensive answers you helped me a lot to decide to buy a kit the same as your clutch!

Hi Donald,

I forgot to ask you if you changed the parts at the same time (together) at once?

These are the clutch kit, the master cylinder and the clutch pedal spring.
