Australia 2000 Defender 130 2.5 TD HCPU Chawton White
130 specific map?
I was wondering if anyone has experimented with TD5 tunes specifically for the extra 130 mass? I run 255/85's and removed the EGR. Otherwise stock (will get an intercooler). Curious what maps you are using in your TD5 130 and what recommendations you would make based on your experiences. Many thanks for your advice.

Good question and the answer is going to be any remap will be beneficial to your 130. Being potentially a heavier vehicle you will want more low down torque. I only have a 110 CSW but it does have a fun roll cage on it so weight-wise probably in the same ball park as your 130.

It is absolutely worth dropping Alive tuning a line to get their opinion and if you like what you hear they can send you a nanocom remap file over to you since you are not local. I believe BAS tuning do the same.

I have had two tunes on my TD5 and by far the first one was the one that made me go Mr. Green Oh hell yes... Such a difference in low down torque and overall drivability. What map you decide to install really does depend on what you want to do with your 130 and importantly how heavy it is. For me it is a mild tune that keeps the black smoke to a minimum and retains as much of the reliability as I can.

What are your plans for the 130?

Speak to a reputable Land Rover specialist tuner that can map the vehicle to your needs and none of the generic maps or stupid plug in tuning boxes that you can buy.

BAS, IRB, Alive, etc. You’ll see their names appear a lot on here

My truck albeit a 90 was mapped at first by BAS and made a massive difference to the generic rubbish map that was on it when I got the truck, currently it’s mapped by IRB along with a few other goodies and it’s great. Would definitely recommend either of them

The 130 is a tourer on 33X10.5 KO2's, safari snorkel, extra fuel, water and hot water system, fridge drop/slide and an aluminium canopy I made inspired by that Spanish mob. Made a swing away carrier on the back to get the spare out of the tub. Made a drop in box under the center seat box for the ecu and electrics and have a storage box now under the drivers seat. I fitted Renault back seats over the box(now a long range diesel tank) and put a 3/4 length drawer between the tubs in the back. Put a full flat floor over the drawer and cut out the side of the tub down to the floor level on the left side. Fabbed the canopy door to come down to the flat floor so easier loading and the fridge drop slide lowers to a usable level (vertically challenged family). Put a gorilla net in the roof cavity of the canopy to load soft stuff and the surfboards and a front runner platform on the roof for the canoes and oz tent, awning on the left. We use it a lot and it serves us really well. Just picked up an NNN for it cos Id like to wire in a cruise control but a remap wouldn't hurt either Razz . I noticed how responsive it is to cold nights (feels like a rocket when it gets denser air so a turbo hybrid cassette or VVT might be the go too.

Lots of ideas, not much dosh at the moment. Working out the next on the todo list. Ill add a few photos if there's interest.

Like to hear what maps, 130 TD5 owners have specifically. Cheers

from what you've said, I would think an intercooler would be top of the list, along with the remap.

From the other stuff listed, the snorkel is probably the most important piece to share with whoever is doing the map. The additional restriction they introduce into the inlet is significant. I would expect all of the specialists listed to be able to cater for that though as it is such a common modification.

Thanks for that. Yep an intercooler is on the to do list. I've already modified my airbox too.

That's good.

With an uprated intercooler and remap, I think you'll be pleased with the results. Especially with all the extra weight you're carrying. As others have said, a torque focused map will be the most useful for your setup.
