Looking for a bit of help on what length rivets to buy to join 2 pieces of 2mm aluminium sheet together, there seems to be discrepancies between what various suppliers and guides recommend. I had originally planned to buy them based on the grip range of the rivet 4.8x10mm rivet with a grip range of 4-6mm, which according to one supplier was correct. However, having just checked online some websites recommend combined material thickness (4mm) + (1.5 x rivet diameter = 1.5x4.8 = 7.2mm) = 11.2mm meaning I would need a 4.8x16mm rivet with a grip range of 10-12mm.
Also, looking at aluminium case with stainless steel mandrel rivets, I assume they are widely used on aluminium body panels? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Panel thickness plus 1x rivet diameter for a sealed 'Avdel' type Normally disregard any allowance for sealer etc. HTH Keith
