Roof Bars
Hello All,

Quick question regarding the LR original roof rail cross bars.... are they designed to be left in place once fitted to the roof rails or are they easily removable to allow you to refit as and when required? Also, can they be placed anywhere along the roof rails or can they only be fitted to a predetermined fixed point?

Cheers

There's an 11 minute landrover accessories video for the defender:

To me it looks like you can take them on and off as you see fit and I would be surprised if you cannot move them around on the rail. That would be different to most bars and rail combos I have ever had.

Thanks for your reply and the video link

Seems a bit strange that the part of the video that shows fitting and locking the cross bars is not actually on a defender and doesn't use the same type of mounting bracket.

I have a Discovery Sport and the cross bars I have on this come from an Evoque and they fit fine, however they will not fit a Defender as they use a clamp fitting (rather like that shown in the video).

Looking at the clip of the Defender roof with the cross bars mounted then subsequently removed it does look like there are specific 'slots' in the roof rails where the cross bars fit, which suggests you don't get a choice of where you can place them?

Right, thought so. Not exactly a quick release fit, so I'm guessing once they are on best just to leave them on!

I haven’t noticed any increase in fuel consumption leaving them on the car and the only time I get any noise from them is when I crack open the sunroof, the noise disappears if you fully open the glass panels though. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Just look for the Thule system, You could even make the sliding plates longer so they can sit every where on the rail.

If you use the non oem Thule bars and feet you can locate them pretty much anywhere you want as long as you avoid the gaps where the track opens up in width.
