Help! with new Moto Lita Steering Wheel
Guys, I’ve just fitted (after a 9 week wait) my shiny new Moto Lita Steering Wheel on a new 48 spline boss. All seems fine but I’m concerned that the bolt isn’t all the way through the retaining nut. It’s on tight but as you can see in the picture it’s not even flush. Thoughts? I’m pretty certain I’ve got the indicator cancelling stalks at the right length. I think the boss aperture is flush with where the central bolt/column flares out below the threaded section. The boss itself is only a couple of millimetres clear of the column shroud anyway. I don’t think it’s going to pop off but I’m still a little concerned.

Thanks mate, that’d be really useful. Having done some more Googling, I reckon I might know where I went wrong. I bought the Boss from Mudstuff (nothing against them) following their guide which doesn’t mention taper. Having checked the Moto Lita website there is such a thing as deep taper for some 2008 Defender Bosses, which is what I reckon the issue might be. So new steering wheel off tomorrow and taper measuring for me, and then probably a tricky phone call to Mudstuff....

Mines the same

Had it a number of years now with no issues. You can always add some lock title if concerned.

So I’ve spoken to Mud and Moto Lita, who were both really good. Turns out they think I do need a Deep Taper Boss - B45 LR. Which is what Mud thought they were supplying, but they got a batch of standards by mistake - B45. Mud are sending me a replacement for free, and I’ll post to hopefully say that the nut is a bit further on the bolt. Mark, might be of interest to you, but if you’ve lock tighted the nut on I suppose it won’t be going anywhere!

Thanks for the heads up Leathers.

On another note, if your top cap starts moving or feeling loose put a single strip of electrical tape on it then push it into place.

Still easy to get out but more secure and stops the logo doing its own thing.. Thumbs Up

Turns out I did need the deeper boss! Arrived, fitted and all good now. Although apparently the missus doesn’t like the new steering wheel..

To brighten up the wheel a bit, I removed the black slotted bolts and replaced them with stainless steel Allen head bolts.

Sorry no pictures, but personally I think that it looks better instead of everything being black.

Very Happy

Nope. She doesn’t like it, I tried to negotiate for a 15” version but lost that argument
