I find when I start my 2010 2.4 the exhaust fumes are eye watering until the engine warms up. Is this normal or is it over fuelling on cold start?

I don't know if its normal, but mine does it. Keep meaning to check for exhaust leaks on a cold morning. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Is it white smoke on cold start that disappears when it gets warm? Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

I had those loads of white smoke while testing a 2.4 I wanted to buy.
That white fog of death disappeared as soon as the engine warmed up, what took 2...3 min Neutral

As this indicates the head needs replacement, I didn't buy that one.

Sorry for spreading bad news...

The most common sign of a blown head gasket is exhaust smoke. White smoke indicates that your car is burning coolant that is leaking into the cylinders. A similar problem is indicated by blue exhaust smoke, though this is a sign of oil leaking from the gasket. The exhaust pipe may also be emitting excess moisture or dripping water.

No white smoke, Jus link busting eye watering carbon smoke . Once warm it’s fine.

How does the cold start work?

think its a defender trait mine is the same on cold start .
its fine in warmer weather just for peace of mind keep a eye on your expansion bottle see if it keeps at the same level .
also check the cap for emulsification

Mine does it. (2008 2.4) No white smoke. I have soot marks on the exhaust - to turbo flange. I've had it machined flat and I have an after market gasket but it still blows a bit.
