Head Gasket… Sounds like it and because your oil pressure is instant on start up it’s more common to have oil in water. Ride like you stole it!!

Sounds like that's early signs of head gasket failure, My rover metro started going that way, when the headgasket started to fail. What may happen, when the car is up temp, you may start seeing thick steam coming out of the exhaust.
id jump on it before it gets worse, Check the head to see if its warped, Not sure if these do suffer from that. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back In the words of my Good Friend, Gary Forrest 1980 -2025 " we will work something out" |

Hmmm, my other half hasn't seen steam from the exhaust as yet but he's planning on getting the head skimmed as well as a replacement gasket. I remember having a Triumph Spitfire soft top sports car years ago where the flange gasket kept breaking down. Sounded like a piece of cardboard flapping in the spokes of a bicycle to start with and ending up more like a cement mixer on the go. Thanks for your reply, looks like it's going in one direction with this problem.

You'll only get steam if the gasket breaches between a waterway and a cylinder. Oil in the water is indicative of a breach between waterway and oil way with regard to head gasket failure.

I would also have a look at the radiator, as the engine oil cooling goes thru it. Regards

Good shout but you would see oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil normally if this were the fault, oil pressure is greater than coolant on start up and coolant pressure remains higher than oil pressure on a hot engine once turned off. Still worth a check though as odd things happen Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |
