Are Caranex still in business?
I’m looking for a Caranex tent to use on a Dormobile conversion, but all items on their website are out of stock.
I havnt tried ringing yet, just wondered if they are still trading.

Does anyone have suggestions of a good quality alternative to use on the rear of a Landrover?

Thanks, Andrew

Have you thought about the LR day tent?

Can’t find the pic of it with my Def, but they are good bits of kit. Far better than a Caranex which I wanted, till I tried one.

I tried emailing them a couple of weeks back, got no response unfortunately. May be worth a phone call, maybe putting their feet up during covid?

Other option, although expensive is an Oz tent?

Thanks for the suggestions.
I have used a Caranex in the past and agree they are not perfect but I could do with something quite lightweight and quick to erect just to give us shelter by the back door and somewhere to put the loo.
I may end up getting something made, my old series 2 carawagon had awning chanel fixed round the rear body which seemed a good idea.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I’ve been offered an unused Caranex by a Series 2 forum member so have bought it and we’ll see how we get on.

Still don’t know if Caranex are still in business, but I’m sorted for now👍

England
I've got a Caranex that I've used a few times. It's ok but on my own it takes a while to put it up. Maybe half an hour. First time I used it I made the serious error of not having done a practice erection beforehand [ok...go for it.....]. It was at a Peterborough LR show, evening, light was failing, and I was trying to read the tiny instruction print and make sense of what honestly was unhelpful crap. I was almost about to chuck it in a skip and head out to find a hotel. Then 2 lads next to me saw me struggling and came over to help. My problem was getting it up and over the back end single-handedly and tied down to be able to get the poles fitted inside. Then there were a mass of poles to sort through, most surplus to the immediate requirement of getting the thing up.

Subsequently, I used a garden clothes line prop to lift it up and over. Then I marked the required poles with different coloured tapes to indicate which ones connected and where they went. The surplus ones were for leaving it standing whilst you drove the vehicle off, and some I never did work out their use. I kept them separated.

I found that rain pooled on top - seriously pooled. Almost a pond that got in the way of the rear door opening. So I made an upright that clipped on to a cross pole to push the roof up about 6 inches or so. A flat plate fixed to the top of the upright up against the material kept it in position. That sorted it. Overall it was ok. I slept inside the 110 and used the Caranax as a living/cooking/storage area but eventually decided I wanted a bit more space, comfort and ease of use.

Then I tried a big inflatable. It's good if you're staying for a couple of nights or more, but not for one night stands. Or where rain is involved. Now I'm looking at roof tents, annexes and awnings. Howling Moon and their additions.
