Not to mention the horror stories of people with blown injectors, failed fuel pumps, etc, due to water in the diesel, dirt, paraffin, etc. Shocked --

I understand what you are saying about fuel quality - but also remember my south african friends saying the same when the TD5 came out.

In fact they were back in the UK 6 months ago saying the amount of new land rovers were amazing (they do diagnostics now as they have the kit)

But like i say - its really only a transit engine - defender owners must remember that and look at the abuse transits get Mike

i would probably get the 2.2 as it wil get the cheaper tax etc. Dont think there is really much point worrying about if its a 2.2 or 2.4.

You only need to worry if you want bragging rights over your mates in the pub; and if thats all your interested in then a TD5 will win the CCs and Cylinders argument. Laughing Current:D4 HSE

True, but Transits are not as common as they used to be, Merc Sprinters seem to dominate the market now, even the police and public utilities going over to them. 2011 110 USW

There all commercials, so there is no difference in the tax as VED not based on emissions for commercials. Disco 3 gone but the memory of the bills remain...
XS 110 Utility maybe one day..... (did they fix the quality yet?)

I have a DPF on the audi, the service tech told me if you don't thrash the b0ll0x of it when the amber light comes on irrevocable damage is done and the dpf has to be replaced. It is considered customer damage and wont be done under warranty. Cost - £1100 fitted.

Seen as more than every other defender is a lemon already (according to the forum poll!)then expect some fun and games.

Diesel engines are becoming more and more unattractive on Land Rovers.
I don't know how the new 2014 Defender will look like, but I can imagine a petrol engine running inside...
After the 4X2 Freelander, what will be the next surprise?
Land Rovers are becoming more and more "americanized" unfortunately ....

if you are going to be regularly driving on trips of 10 miles or more then the 2.2 will be fine. If you will be doing mostly short trips on a cold engine then the 2.4 will be less problematic IMHO
