Looks like ford are pulling the plug on the Mondeo, I was surprised about it, i thought the fiesta would have gone, due to how long that has been going for. I thought id post this up, as i know some of you may have owned one at some point.

The Fiesta is Ford’s cash cow. It’s still very popular and rightly so as they are cracking little car. I don’t think that will be going anywhere anytime soon.
I am not surprised about the Mondeo although it’s always sad when a model which had been so popular reaches the end of the line. You can understand it. They are no where near as many on the road as there were say 10-15 years ago. The company car of choice which then filtered down to being the second hand family car of choice. Tastes change and also buying leasing options mean the big fleet purchases don’t happen any more. They are saying that people are preferring the SUVs and crossovers. Makes you wonder how much longer their other models such as the Focus have considering the changeover to EV? Crossovers and SUVs are easier to design around the batteries I would think? |

Rashers is spot on.
The Fiesta is the only Ford that's selling in big numbers these days and decline of the company car market killed the Mondeo. Focus is certainly well down on where it was too. I drove Fords as everyday cars from the mid 90's to 2016, great handling cars and reliable. These days apart from the Fiesta and Mustang, the range is uninteresting. The Bronco Sport would get me into the showroom, but they're not bringing it here. It is really sad to see such an iconic brand in decline. |

For once I find myself agreeing with something written by the DM
I can remember the coming (and going) of the Cortina, the Escort, the Sierra (nobody thought that the jelly-mould shape would ever catch on, but within a few years every car was that shape), and now the Mondeo. I guess it is "progress". |

There was an article somewhere, which some industry expert reckoned Ford should abandon all car sales in Europe and focus on their commercials, but even the Transit isn’t as good as they were. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

The Mondeo has been eaten alive by the Germans sadly - stick a BMW or Audi badge on a 3 box design and the hoards come running "where do I sign?"

Had lots of Fords over the years, the Fiestas were my favourites, owned a Mk2, Mk3, Mk4 and 5 in my driving lifetime. The girlfriend currently has a 65 plate EcoBoost one, great little cars
Thing is I think lots of people have switched from the Mondeo/Focus sized cars over years to the smaller cars that have gradually got bigger so kind of makes the bigger cars less relevant and lower sales. Also as SN points out, the seemingly relentless want for a prestige badge on the bonnet by many.... |

Apart from in one or two guises they were very dull and depreciated like a lemming off a cliff. My grandfather worked for Ford so we all had Fords when I was younger. My father had a Sierra 2.3 Ghia X (I think there was an X) estate which went well, but from memory was limited by a 3 (maybe 4?) speed auto box. A887 RHK, rust in peace.

I can't verify how good the Transit is or isn't (I used to love driving them) these days, but there are not that many about like there were. The Vauxhall Vivaro is a much cheaper vehicle to buy / lease and does more or less the same job. If I was in the market for a large van, I would like the Transit, but my bank balance would push me towards the Vivaro as it seems many companies have done. Again not sure with the new model Vivaro but the last model wasn't a bad drive. The new Kuga, in my opinion, looks dreadful. Ford also went big on the Vignale models a few years back making some of their dealerships put in specific areas for the Vignale owners. I have not been in a Ford dealers in five or six years, but I have only ever seen a few Vignales on the road, I am assuming this was another disaster. Don't mention the Scorpio. I think that was the beginning of the rot. Even Ford Motor Company hated it. |

Personally I've been a big Ford fan growing up at the peak of the hot hatch era, and for me Ford have missed a trick by not continuing those models.
Yes they've the Fiesta and Focus ST models and the halo RS Focus, but where was the sporty Mondeo? They had the ST models in the line up early on. Does not surprise me. Ford are a clever bunch and the writing has been on the wall for a long time. I looked at Fords, Nissans etc for the family car and getting a Discovery Sport was only £50 a month more expensive due to the high resale value.
The Ford Ranger is a masterstroke. |
