Am i going to lose this bolt?
Hi there,

I have recently purchased a 2002 td5 defender 110, and for some reason, i am starting to do it up back to front. I want to remove the carpet so i can give it a deep clean, and i need to remove these bolts to remove the carpet i think (the one the flat head is pointing to)?

If i remove this bolt, will the nut end up in the depths of hell or will it be held up? Any advice will be more than welcome!

Scotland 
Captive nut welded into crossmember underneath, will probably be a metric fine thread.

If it is a genuine seat belt bolt it will be imperial thread.
Just like every seat belt bolt. Often on new vehicles having imperial thread and metric spanner head.

I think (though could be mistaken) that on mine it's a nut, welded to a nut plate, riveted to the underfloor supports. SHould stay attached, but one of mine had partially broken free. Either way it's a big obvious lump that you can get to from underneath.

Fortunately, it was a captive nut and now my carpet is hanging up drying, the pressure washer did a surprisingly good job on the rust stains!

give the threads that its going in a check up, and a clean. I had to replace a seatbelt mount on my old 300 TDi, due to this sort of thing, but that was down to the previous owners putting the bolt in on the p!ss, making it a nightmare! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
