Fuel filter change on Puma...a snag
I was undoing the wing nut to remove the cover on the fuel filter on the 2.4 Puma when the "wing" broke off the nut! Probably have to drill it out now. Has this happened to anyone else 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I will be approaching this in a cautious manner. My plan is to drill out the stub of the nut and simply replace it with a self tapping screw and receiver. Alternatively I will drill another hole further down and put a nut and bolt through it or a self tapper and receiver. Then again I could just put a cable tie through the cleared hole as a "temporary" ( Whistle ) measure, at least it won't rust!
The problem was caused by that pesky Covid 19. Owing to the lack of milage and the fact that I was filling the tank from my diesel tank in the shed (I buy it by the 1,000 litres) I did not undo the cover recently to open the drain on the filter. So the wing nut just seized and rusted to the cover. Even though I applied WD40 and let it sit over night. So if you want to avoid this just turn the wing nut every so often.
An update will follow...after some serious meditation.

For future reference, Try plusgas on seized fixings as it’s a releasing agent, WD40 is not a releasing agent, it’s a water dispersant so does not really help rusted fixings.

When you get it off it has a speed nut underneath, same as the fan shroud.
Easy to put a stainless nut and bolt in

Update. I managed to get this sorted. I managed to get a long flat bladed screwdriver into the slot where the "wing" snapped off. Prior to this I tapped around it with the screwdriver and a hammer to break the rust seal and added some oil. Then it was a matter of inserting the flat blade of the screwdriver into the slot and turning it. It took a lot of pressure on the screwdriver to get it to turn but it did turn.
Here is the offending article and what I replaced it with. Hopefully this might help someone in the future.
