United Kingdom 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zermatt Silver
billing
Ok so I did go to billing for the first time this year.
My intention was to rekey the bits n bobs I wanted then buy later.
I bought a couple of bow shackles which don’t fit the recovery points on my winch bumper.
A locking cubby box with leather top from exmoor trim
Spoke to Darren of made by boo re his load space draw and subsequently bought one, I did ask them to make up some dividers which they did. This arrived by courier on Thursday and I fitted it Friday night and love it. Well made looks good.

I still need some shackles for the winch bumper, I think the type with bolts, thinner than the bow type, can any one help??

Also I have a standard landrover tow bar and wanted to fit rear recover points, are jake rings the best??

What size bow shackles did you buy? WLL of 4.5 tonnes shackle are more then adequate for most LR recoveries. These should fit onto most winch bumpers ok. Bow shackles are considered slightly better then dee shackles as they can take an off line pull better.

Rear recovery points? Several options are out there. From JATE rings, forged ones are considered better then welded, same argument as shackles. Also have seen some poor quality welded ones. Downside you might land up scrabbling around in mud to find them.

Tow ball? Mixed views on that one, depends how hard recovery is going to be. Tow ball is not rated for snatch recoveries.

2" receiver with recovery point. Higher less scrabbling around but non swivel.

Swivel recovery eye with suitable back plate.

It all depends on what you intend doing with your vehicle.

Bow Shackles and Swivel Recovery Eyes
Hi John further to our discussion earlier today

The standard size bow shackles used are

3.25 and 4.5 tonne WLL. They have respective pin diameters of ca. 20 and 22mm each

Typical swivel recovery eyes are like these

The one on the left is the Equipe one with the mounting bracket. It is also available without the mounting bracket. This type of swivel recovery uses a dee type shackle and an Allen bolt

The allen bolt is 12mm diameter (10mm allen key) Check the hole size in your recovery eyes

I suspect that these types of shackles were missing when you bought the vehicle. I do not know who sells these types of shackles. However if your recovery eyes have a 12 mm hole in them I suggest you give Derek (LRS) a ring on 01302 302649 and ask if he has any.

HTH

Brendan

I have just checked the hole size and there 12mm, also the swivel eyes are in line with the chassis rails
