What break Fluid
I noted the clutch master is near empty but no sign of a drip as yet.
The master seems dry (no wet foot) and the slave is a little out of sight.
I suppose the leak is not enough to fill the bellhousing as yet as only 3/4 of the reservoir is empty.

Now what fluid to refill with.
As usual our RSA specs are not the same numbers as in the Puma book.
Do you think it OK just to use a shell dot4 type?

Advice apretiated

Thanks James Puma 110 - gone

Found out it is the master cylinder as my wife told me she washed a sticky spot off the rubber mat a few days ago and thought it may be spilled juice as there was sand stuck to it also. Neutral

Looks like back to dealer for new master.

My mates TD5 has had about 3 replaced and an unsuccessful re-sleeve in s.steel.
Seems common to defender?
I suppose only the slave cylinder is different due to Ford Gearbox. Puma 110 - gone

I think the Puma cylinder is the same as TD5. I bought a TD5 new and it required a replacement master cylinder every year or so. I suspect the 08 Defender still retains this weakness.

my clutch went all soft 2 days ago and i checked the level of the fluid today - it's empty.
i don't see any leaks anywhere.
i've filled it up and all appears more or less normal again.
this is the 3rd time this has happened (the previous 2 i took the car to the dealer - they just bled the system).
what the hell is going on? how much clutch fluid should one use?
the owners manual says to check the level weekly.
any advice, comments? www.ralton.co.za
