garage lighting
Hopefully at some point in 2021 I will have my new garage installed Smile

I'm working away sorting the drainage and retaining wall etc, so lots to keep me busy

Looking at lighting inside though as I can get some stuff ready.

So much choice, warm white, cool white, 4000K, Led. 5000k etc etc.

In my old garage I had a couple of LED strip lights no idea what they were, What is best to work on for a garage environment?

I just put a search in amazon, highest rating and these 4ft 6500K ones came up, they are also cheap at £25 each

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LHome-TRI-Proof-D...s9dHJ1ZQ==

Probably need 6 so if these get the Thumbs Up I will order some.

Thanks

For what it’s worth...

In my Workshop I went for 600mm square LED panels.
42w equivalent, cool white.
Great lights for working under. Really pleased with them. Less than £15/panel.

Do you have a link to the supplier Clemmo as that looks a good price.

The whitest white light possible for a work space.

Just a safety precaution, check that light does not flicker at supply frequency, as it can make motors turning at 3000rpm look stationary (stroboscopic effect) 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I don’t as it was 18 months ago now. I got them off EBay. I’ve just searched 600 led panel and there is quite a choice.

I swapped the standard tubes out for daylight LED tubes, the Food standard ones are plastic so if you hit them the don't send pits of glass flying about. Think they are Crompton make. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Good to see a mamod on the desk!

These lights look fantastic, I wonder if you could get them to run of a 12V battery as my garage is sadly marooned from the electrical network. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

The LED driver units that come with these panels typically output 22-42Vdc so you'd need need a small inverter to convert your 12Vdc to 240Vac (to use the supplied driver) or a dc-dc converter to jack your 12Vdc up to the expected range. The former would probably be cheaper albeit somewhat less efficient.

This is the driver that came with each of my Luminent panels a few years back - nominal output = 22-35Vdc

Six LED battens in mine, they’re LAP ones from Screwfix. Not expensive, give good light and with no flickering. They can be daisy-chained up to eight units.

Gotta love Mamod....been collecting for 30 years.
Way to many now so starting to let a few go... they are fetching silly money too.
This is the boxed one on the desk. It’s completely unused/unfired. Will fetch around £280

I would certainly go LED and consider two rows either side of the vehicle rather than a single row above which could cause a lot of shadowing. Depending on head height you could install strip lights vertically on the wall which can give a good lights.

LED lights are so cheap and low energy, I'd buy a few and if not bright enough just add some more. James

I bought 2 of these to replace 2 standard 5' strips.

https://www.novelenergylighting.com/osram-...79953.html

The difference is like night and day. These are from a good manufacturer, very easily wired in and when I miswired one of the lights the company sent me out another with no questions asked and asked me to locally dispose of the faulty unit. I realised my mistake and they just said keep both.

All in all, great light and good company too.
