What spec 4.6 V8 for a Defender?
I was very fortunate to drop on a cheap NOS 4.6 RV8 for my 127 project.

The engine is bog standard so whilst everything is nice and new I have the following planned:

- Heads removed to be sent for porting and polishing
- Piper 270 cam
- Tornado tuned GEMS EFI
- Bosch Injectors

I can't help but think I might be missing a trick by not going straight for big valve heads? Perhaps they would be overkill on engine where torque and (relative) economy are the main concern?

That said I'm also keen not to go down the route of chasing very expensive ponies as the LS route is probably better value if I wanted silly power.

I would be grateful for any experience / thoughts on the matter (Greeni, Mike Rolling with laughter) 1985 127 V8 Build Thread

I had ACR build mine as a new turnkey, if you want lots of power, LS as you say.
It’s ‘enough’ as is… mine has done nearly 13k miles now and not once hiccupped. Literally 2 hours ago i took a spark plug out to see what i need to order as i haven’t even touched them.

I know you’re not a million miles away, but i’d be happy take you for a spin in it?

Do you recall what spec Roland built it to? Think he offers both stage 1 (ported) and 2.1 (big valves) on the turnkeys? What cam have you got? Could I have the build sheet please? Rolling with laughter

Either way that's where I'm dropping my heads off, he's also going to recondition a GEMS front cover for me as the 4.6 was set up to run 14CUX.

Yes please! Thumbs Up how far are you from Roland? I could make a bit of trip when I drop the bits off next week. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread
