I suspect that the problems with the blue one were not JLR’s fault but incompetence/ lack of experience at the dealership workshop. There are now quite a few people who have fitted winches themselves following the accessory fitting instructions and don’t seem to have needed to cut/ splice into the wiring loom as seems to have happened with the 2nd car.
PowerflUK are fitting their winch this week so it will be interesting to see what damage they do to theirs! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

So being called out as a Lemon now:

"The Fast Lane’s Lemon of a Land Rover Defender Needs a New Engine After All"

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/the-fas...51900.html

No wonder the new winch package is so expensive, for every one they sell they appear to be giving one away to a Youtuber ...

There’s something very depressing about the kind of “journalism” in that autoevolution article - seven referenced complaints from thousands of deliveries, and it's dismissed with “tremendous quality and reliability problems”.

Just shows how careful JLR (and other manufacturers) need to be to deal with these issues openly and quickly before the internet gets fired up that every new Defender is a lemon. A significant number of faultless Defenders have been sold in the USA and there are a lot of very happy owners. 7 cars out of thousands sold have had an issue (One of which was already a recall item anyway) - that’s hardly a disaster for QC that appears to have improved significantly since production started, been there through several frustrating defects that should have been picked by the end of line QC myself.

Regarding the issue with the 2nd Fast Lane car, if you have a look at the winch installing instructions online it appears that there is only 1 cable (for whatever an active vane - not the wiring harness itself - to be cut right at step 2. So why would the technician doing the job cut into the wiring loom? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Possible that article was a little overblown?
A quick visit to the National Highway and Safety website.....

I don't think it's unfair when you look at the case of the TFL Defender, on the back of JLR's existing customer survey reputation, or even it's own ex-boss and Annual Reports that describe the eye-watering value of warranty work as being a major issue.

Can you quote any mainstream vehicle manufacturer's rates for major engine failures? 1 in what 5,000 delivered to the US, sounds high to me; and that's only counting this one, who knows if there are more that just don't have YouTube accounts.

At least they get yet another video, a few more subscribers and a few more bucks out of it.

As per the point above, isn't the opposite actually the truth ~ a major engine failure in 5k sales is actually very significant?

I don't think the listing is meant to be exhaustive? Just 7 owners miffed enough to go to that website.

I'm not sure how any end of line QC would pick up design faults ~ wasn't the A-pillar issue fixed with a new part?
