My daughter has a 300 tdi 90. She phoned to say that the dip lights had gone but all others were working. Naturally enough I diagnosed the main on/off light switch. So she removed the steering cowl to check which switch she needed as there are two different connectors depending on year. She bought the correct switch and fitted it...no joy, problem persisted. So she got her mechanic to look at it. Turned out to be a burnt out wire which he fixed for her. He charged £40 which is a fair enough price. Must get a relay fitted to the light system.
The object of this post being that she changed the switch herself. She is pretty hands on Land Rover wise  1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Well done that girl
Had a similar incident on Miffy the other week. Turned out to be the relay housing of the headlight stand-alone loom made by Red Bison. The one folks put in to protect the light switch. Same symptoms as your daughters. Well it did protect the switch  I have removed the loom for repair for now, but the original loom is working just fine until then. |

Excellent result, but if the dip beams are working and the main beams are not it is more likely to be the dip/main/indicator switch which has melted rather than the main off/side/head switch. Generally the latter will result in no headlights at all. |
