Acoustic wadding
I replaced the front under dash speakers with JL Audio 4” versions which was a good improvement but still sounded lightweight and boomy...so I’ve now stuffed acoustic wadding behind the speakers and plenty of it. Quite an improvement for just a few pounds. Money well spent imo. The boomy sound nearly gone, and speakers sound more detailed plus the volume can be hiked up!
Still needs a sub though. So, my idea is for now, using a Pioneer or Alpine compact sub, not to drill the cubby to attach the sub to the back, but to use one of the acoustic mats left over in between the sub and cubby and then use heavy duty Velcro around all edges. It should hold the sub easily in place and the acoustic mat £3.50 worth will provide the dampening .
