Can anyone check their front bumper?
Hi guys.

Very quick query: on the top of the bumper of my TDCi there are two small holes: like ones that would have been drilled to mount spotlights.

I have no idea if the holes are standard or not: could anyone let me know if they have these on their Puma too? (Mine’s a 2010).

If not, I guess a PO has had a since-removed accessory in which case I’ll weld them up before I respray the bumper.

Unfortunately I don’t have a photo to hand as the car’s in having its rustproofing done this week.

Thank you.

As Norman says, it's for a long obsolete metal bracket for the number plate, much like this:

As a detail, it was carried over onto early coil sprung models but it wasn't long before the bracket was abandoned in favour of screwing plates directly to the front of the bumper. The bumper itself was never changed though, so retains the mounting holes. Darren

That's great! Yes it was the holes in the middle - as shown in the second photo from Ecco above.

Ah - that makes perfect sense, the same as the ones on my SIIA for its number plate.

I'll stand the Mig welder down!

Thanks very much guys.

I'm surprised they didn't leave the hole for the starting handle! Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Ah, the starting handle holes moved up to the grill panel for early coilers Smile Darren

I have seen some people put the black plastic trim fastener x-mas trees through them to cover the hole.

No idea why but their truck, they can do as they wish. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I've got a number plate bracket on my 2008 model, looks good and keeps the number plate out of the mud, came with it.

I've long since replaced the plastic fir tree peg things with stainless steel blind bolts as the fir tree ones tend to rip if the rubber bumper ends snag on anything
