Loss of power.
My Defender Puma 2.4 sometimes when driving all of a sudden loses power, and will slow right down, due to lack of power. When you stop, the engine continues to run. I switch the ignition off, then restart the engine and the engine runs on full power again, so turning off the ignition and starting again is effectively resetting something. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this, or experienced a similar fault.
Thanks. Forgot to mention there is no engine management light activation, so no fault codes.

Have a look at the posts about the vcv valve on here. Thumbs Up
Sounds suspect.

I replaced the vcv valve last year, as the defenders idle speed was very erratic, replacing this valve solved the idle speed problem.

The first thing to do is check what if and DTCs are stored in the ECU, otherwise it's just guesswork.

As above check codes.

What conditions does it occur under? Cheers

Mine did this just randomly lost power,

No fault codes, nothing, all dials go off then sometimes would restart on its own other times I restart it.

Could do it 3 times in a 20 mile trip or once in 3 months...

Mine was a new ignition barrel. Changed this and no issues since Thumbs Up

What conditions : Normal driving, happens randomly can be over a month and no issues, then twice in a week, dealership hopeless as no fault codes therefore not interested. I am completely bamboozled, as it goes like a train after you have stopped at the side of the road and restarted it.

Stacey007's reply above has identified a very likely culprit. Fiddly to fix but not expensive. Darren

Grounding points being loose and or battery clamps is another possibility, an easy enough thing to check at least and free.

Ideally some Dielectric grease too, and checking all main HD fuses are secure.
MAF and Map sensors are clean, and maybe even the alternator live stud too.
The electrical side can have a significant impact on the performance due to the fuelling system ECU etc.

I expect the above posts maybe very possible and likely even to be the issue. But the things I’ve suggested are worth checking just in case and won’t cost anything.

Take a look at the air filter too. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
