JLR bottom of another table
I wonder if it helps explain the move to straight 6 engines, possibly quicker than most thought?

And JLR's traction in this area is not that impressive:

"Five of the top 20 models that emitted more than 150 g/km of CO2 in the first half were from JLR, led by the Range Rover Sport premium large SUV, T&E said.

JLR has a special derogation from the European Union that gives it a softer 2020 target of 132 g/km, based on the NEDC cycle.

T&E figures showed JLR’s first half CO2 at 159 g/km, but closed the gap to 145 g/km because of supercredits it earned from sales of the full-electric Jaguar I-Pace as well as credit earned from fitting so-called eco-innovation technology to its cars.

“We don’t recognize those figures,” a JLR spokeswoman told Automotive News Europe. “We are quite a bit closer.”

She declined to predict whether JLR would meet its target." Shocked

They can stick their heads in the sand but the market is changing rapidly. JLR need to up their game sharpish. Hopefully the investment at Castle Bromwich will start bearing fruit sooner rather than later. WARNING.

JLR would shift more EV’s and PHEV’s if they priced them realistically instead of making them more expensive than the pure ICE powered vehicles. Tesla has been reducing the prices of its cars as they sell more of them, the IPace in cheapest guise is still more expensive than the highest spec, best performing AWD Tesla 3. The IPace has less usable range and no super fast charging system that consistently works and is free to use. JLR don’t even try to entice you in with complimentary use of chargers unlike Volvo and Mercedes Benz who at least give you 12 months free charging. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

This item from this week’s Autocar magazine won’t help JLR either. JLR seem to be putting more into PHEVs than pure EV’s. I think it’s about time our Govt took away the tax benefits to business users who continue to claim for low emissions vehicles but then don’t use the cars in electric mode. Maybe the suggestion to make ICE range smaller than the electric range isn’t so bad. Also maybe the BMW the i3 R-ex and the i8 were way ahead of the rest of the motoring manufacturers with there tiny 2 cylinder petrol generator to extend range in their EV’s which now are soon to end production

T&E article expresses a view on that also:

"Worryingly, sales of lucrative but highly-polluting SUVs crept up to 39% in the first half of 2020. This is encouraged by a loophole in the EU regulation whereby selling heavy vehicles actually gives carmakers laxer CO2 targets. Also, half of all the electric cars sold today are “fake electric” plug-in hybrids that are rarely charged and emit 2-4 times more CO2 in the real world than the lab tests show.[1] T&E said the EU needed to set 2035, at the latest, as the end date for sales of combustion engines - including current PHEV technology.

Julia Poliscanova concluded: “The electric car is finally entering the mainstream in Europe but SUV sales are still growing like weeds. The only way to kill off highly-polluting vehicles is to give carmakers a clear end date now. Cars that run on biofuels, fake electric engines or fossil gas emit CO2 and shouldn’t be allowed on the market after 2035.”

It was to be expected, I can only speak for my own views but I’ve had little time for LR after Ford owned it.
Ford ownership wasn’t perfect, but they did respect the heritage like the did with the Bronco and Mustang as indeed did Jeep with the Wrangler.

In the last year or two they have gone even further downhill. There are a couple of reasons for this and starts at the top of leadership amongst other things I won’t go into.

Very sad really. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Tesla seem to have their issues

TFL had a previous Teslsa model that was rear ended, what was originally estimated at $2,500 ended up being $10,000 to fix. The other problem was the amount of time it was off the road waiting to be repaired.

Might have to buy a horse before the prices go up with demand in the future..... Whistle

T&E:

"Europe's leading clean transport campaign group

Transport & Environment's (T&E) vision is a zero-emission mobility system that is affordable and has minimal impacts on our health, climate and environment.

Since we were created 30 years ago, T&E has shaped some of Europe’s most important environmental laws. We got the EU to set the world's most ambitious CO2 standards for cars and trucks but also helped uncover the dieselgate scandal; we campaigned successfully to end palm oil diesel; secured a global ban on dirty shipping fuels and the creation of the world's biggest carbon market for aviation - just to name a few.

Credibility is our key asset. We are a non-profit organisation and politically independent. We combine the power of robust, science-based evidence and a deep understanding of transport with memorable communications and impactful advocacy."

So they're a bunch of environmental busy bodies, not anything official, just highly opinionated. Wink

Hope you are not planning to charge your Electric vehicle anytime soon?

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/...t-few-days

It may just get worse once we have ditched the oil and gas boilers, and moved over to electric air source heat pumps and also want to charge our electric vehicles.

I'm sure the lights won't go out (can feel a Michael Fish moment coming on now) but it just shows how precarious our electrical supplies are in this country. It's not even cold yet, luckily.

The potential shortage was caused by human error. There would have been plenty capacity had they not asked for it to be slowed.

Quote:
Concerns over National Grid’s electricity supplies have been relatively rare in recent years. It was forced in November 2015 to ask businesses to cut their demand as a “last resort” measure to keep the lights on after a string of coal plant breakdowns.

But since then National Grid’s greater challenge has been an oversupply of electricity, which threatened to overwhelm the grid during times of low electricity demand.

The company paid wind farms to turn off, and EDF Energy to halve the nuclear generation from its the Sizewell B nuclear plant, to avoid overwhelming the grid when demand for electricity fell by almost a quarter from last year.
 WARNING.
