Paint protection film
Interesting fact - LR offers X-Pel PPF not 3M but they only offer it in Satin finish whereas if you go to an aftermarket specialist X-Pel film is also available in gloss clear film. After this weekend mine is going in to my local detailer for the bramble rash/ pinstriping in the G-Techniq Ceramic coating “corrected” and them I’m having the clear gloss self repairing film done, just waiting for the quote and date now. According to their website the film finish from a specialist is 1/3rd the price LR is asking for New Defender 110 wrapping. There is a problem doing the bonnet though - the letters have to be removed as the factory doesn’t get them in exactly the same place on every car so the other option is to have a window in the film big enough to accommodate the few millimeters of variation in location so I’m not doing the bonnet, basically I’m doing from the panel join under the headlights to the join where the metal work joins the rear light units and from the bottom of each door up to the window line. I’ll update when the quote comes in. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

You should also be able to get a 10 year warranty (although full of loopholes) on xpel as well as other brands. I’m going on 5 years on suntek on my Volvo and it’s clear as the day I got it. Will definitely put it on my Defender when it comes. Prefer gloss to the satin anyway.

Price to do the two sides and the bonnet quoted just now is £1980. JLR are asking £3775........ and that’s for satin finish not clear

on the 20th mine is in for a full xpel gloss wrap with the exception of the roof, which they will ceramic coat
along with the rest of the car once the wrap is on.. Full wrap and ceramic coat was about $2K cheaper than
LR's satin wrap. yet another pommie bar steward down under

Thumbs Up yes I’ve saved £1000 over the LR wrap with ceramic and x-pel, the whole car was done with the ceramic first though. Why are you putting ceramic over the wrap, won’t that stop it self heeling? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Mine goes in for it on 19th and they want the car for 4 days to complete it. Should be an easy job for them to work on a car with big flat panels unlike the Lotus, MacLarens and other expensive sports cars that they seem to be doing every week. When I was i yesterday for the quote the team were working on a race prepped Lotus Evora that has hardly any flat surfaces and spoilers galore! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Likewise, they want it all week.. as for the bonnet they will lay the gloss wrap, but hold
off ceramic coating until the Black decal goes on a week later at the dealers. They will
ceramic over the bonnet decal to ensure it retains its Matt appearance.. yet another pommie bar steward down under

I’m now thinking that I’ll forgo the winch and get the extended wheel arches/ wheel arch protection instead - in the harsh light of day I use the winch on the 90 maybe 3 times a year so the £5000/£6000 cost of the winch can be better spent on additional protection to the car.
I heard the underside land hard on something on Sunday but put the car on the village garage ramp yesterday and there’s some scuffing and some trapped marsh grass but no signs of anything like a dent underneath, so happy it wasn’t anything to match the sound it made! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Going to wait and see what ARB/TJM/Opp lock bring out Tim for a winch bar and have a choice
on what winch to fit. I will also take my time on sourcing under body protection
from after market suppliers. My RRS full under body protection bash plates cost $1200 fitted from
Ironman 4x4, far cheaper than LR’s front scuff plate. yet another pommie bar steward down under

Ceramic coating goes ontop of PPF.. suntek / xpel films are 'ceramic friendly'

Yeah, all the ceramic benefits are just applied onto the PPF, and the PPF is your protection against harsher impacts, the ceramic stuff like swirl marks and light scratches.

I think it's worth the money - I've had it on a car for 4 years and its immaculate still. (suntek / Gtech)

Be aware that the guys doing mine aren’t sure yet if they will have to remove the DEFENDER letters on the bonnet......... pity that PowerfulUK hasn’t yet got a set on the go as my local dealer wants £85.83+VAT (£103 total) for the set, that’s £12.88 a letter! The reason for not being sure is that the production line doesn’t always stick them on to align with the window in the film panel that they cut from a downloaded pattern from X-Pel and it can be difficult to cut the film exactly around the letters if they are left in situ during the film application....... I’ve ordered up a set “just in case” so they can be stuck on the film afterwards if necessary
