Any A/T 255/85R16 at all? M/Ts on the road.
Hi,
Tyre novice here Smile

I'm looking at replacing my 235/85R16 Continental A/Ts on Wolfs.
I don't want to replace the Wolfs, just the tyres.

I'm torn though....
I really like the stance of the Toyo and BFG M/T 255/85R16 tyres.

Main driving is tarmac but I do like a handful of off road days a year (which the Conti A/Ts cope with no problem).

Are there any taller A/Ts that would fit my wolfs that I might be missing?
Are the above M/Ts really bad on tarmac or is just a case of being more careful in the wet and putting up with some extra noise? Cheers,
Andy...

Extra noise, increased fuel usage, longer stopping distance, extra grip not needed 99.9% of mileage.......

But look nice.

I would stick with ats Cheers

I found myself bumping against the very same question 3 or 4 months ago. I think it was in a thread about the BFG KM3 tyres.

The conclusion then was that there were no 255/85/16 ATs on the UK market. I thought I'd 'watch' this thread just in case there had been any change in that position. Not aware that there has though.

The KM3 seems well-regarded, so I went through the same thought process - but haven't done anything as yet, mainly for the reasons jst has outlined. Donald

But they do look good!! Whistle Ok with a 30yo 200tdi I dont push them overly hard, but I've had no issues with them on the tarmac.

I've had no issues at all running either my Disco2 or my Puma 110 on BFG KMs, and in total I have driven that pair for about half a million miles on them. I do not, however, drive like a loony. During the mileage above I have thoroughly tested KM, KM2, and now KM3.

They are entirely satisfactory in wet and dry conditions, on and off road, empty and laden, and I have never had any drama with braking and handling.

It is worth nothing that the KM2 is surprisingly non-grippy on snow-covered tarmac, especially if there is ice underneath (the AT is better). I haven't had the chance to try the KM3 in these conditions yet.

They are however off-road tyres, and if you do not do a substantial amount of off-road work they are not the most sensible choice. They will always be noisier, less economical, and prone to wearing in an irregular way than a road-biased tyre, and they will not grip the tarmac as well as a road-biased tyre.

Thanks all, Bow down
I've decided to go for the Toyos.
I no longer use it for long commutes etc. and try not to drive like a loon either Smile
I'll report back as to how they run.
I also ordered up a set of dynabeads so that should be interesting also. Cheers,
Andy...

Go for the BFG Muds. It's a Defender - in my 110 XS Station Wagon I really don't hear any extra road noise. They fill the arches nicely and are great off road. We tow a lot with a 5 metre Brian James tri axel and have never had any problems stopping on a wet road with the Mud Terrains.

KM2 here, same size 255-85 as Blackwolf suggested. (I feel the same way).

Also with Dynabeads standard via valve stem. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Andy that is exactly how a Land Rover should look - absolutely perfect - The Toyo’s also look far better than the BFG and in my experience perform better particularly on wet tarmac and also don’t seem to perish like BFG 2017 Range Rover L405 Vogue SE V8 Diesel #16
