engine bay/bonnet soundproofing
After some advice please. I have some self adhesive nice soundnproofongnleft over. Is it worth adding it to the underside of bonnet to reduce vehicle noise for when you are in the vehicle traveling or are the noise benefits negligible?

Does it just unstick and fall down or reduce heat disappation disappation? Cheers

I think that soundproofing a Puma bonnet is less worthwhile than earlier ones. It's much stiffer and doesn't resonate in the same way, which is what mass sound deadening materials are good at reducing. You can probably reduce transmitted sound externally with the right materials but for inside the cabin, treating the inside of the bulkhead will give much more benefit. Darren

I’m not sure soundproofing the bonnet will help, but when you open the vents the sound of the engine increases dramatically when stationary.
So it’s worth a try. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

Back to James question, does the self-adhesive anti drum stay stuck to the bonnet or does it pull itself off when it gets hot ?

i have done mine with silent coat and foam there is not a huge improvement in normal driving but a huge improvement with the vents open you can barely hear the engine, it was done a year (8k miles) or so ago and has not come loose nobody is perfect but being Scottish is a start

Excellent news T140. I have an early bonnet and you can see as well as hear it drum.

A year ago I added some Dynamat Hoodliner to mine, it is still in place, no problem.
If you want it to stick in place for a while, there a 2 rules:
- Degrease, and degrease again before applying !
- Do not go wading bonnet deep or it may soak water and come loose with increased weight
Also, as it is about 2cm thick, I had to trim it in some areas to avoid it getting in contact with the engine.
Regarding noise benefit: it is not worse! and when it comes to soundproofing, I believe every little bit counts. So after too many days/nights spent on soundproofing the interior I just thought I could take 1 hour to treat the bonnet.

In my case, it was changing the bonnet hinges that actually suppressed the bonnet vibrations towards the cabin and made a very welcome improvement. I used the Nakatanenga ones with PU bushes, thus avoiding any metal to metal contact. https://www.nakatanenga.de/en/optional-equ...anti-theft

Great, thank you everyone for comments. Doesn't seem to make that much of a difference then by the sounds of it! Cheers

Had it put on mine (td5), and I can't tell any difference, which in fairness the fitter did indicate would be the case.

It should protect the bonnet paint from a bit of engine heat though, if that is a concern to you? 2005 Td5 90 XS
