2014 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 PU Keswick Green

Carpet Trim Question

Chaps, the carpet in my XS - particulary around the seat bases and the carpet mats, is fixed in place by what looks like a black domed pushpins with an orange sleeve on the back. You can see the orange thingy by looking underneath at the chassis or peering into the seatbox. Question - how do you get these pins out, so you can remove the carpet trim ????

Does this orange thingy come off?? Do they screw in?? Have a head cover?? Had a good fiddle earlier and they are well in! Are they reusable or one time only ??

They are reusable if you remove the black pin with care.

I use a trim removing tool on the black pins, it pushes down on the plug and stops it getting damaged.

Unfortunately I did the job first and then asked questions

That means I damaged the plastic cups when I removed the black pins. A nice tip from a fellow here is to put some vaselin or grease inside the cup in order to be easier to pull off the pins if needed in the future.

I've chosen to lose the carpets under the mats. They sponge up moisture and pi55 me off. Much less hassle with just the LR rubber underfoot.

i second that, no carpets since my first time off road, we did get more than a couple of inches of water in the cab

1200 miles on the clock and people thought i was daft.

Thanks for that Mike. I take it they pull out, and the sleeve on the back just slides off also? I also see the seatbelt retainers on the seat box are fixed in a similar fashion. I need to replace the carpet under the front seat already as its sobbing wet and stinks!! Got the carpet for £45 from the stealers. Removing front seat looks straightforward just those bloody trim pins baffled me!! Had a good look at the carpet from the dealers and what cheap crap it is.
