United Kingdom 2002 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Epsom Green
MOT History
I am looking at buying a TD5 110 to complement my TD5 90 which I bought as an x demo 20 years ago. The one I have my eye on failed its MOT a couple of years ago on the following:-
• Nearside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings body mount x member (6.1.B.2)
• Offside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings body mount x member (6.1.B.2)
• Nearside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings chassis leg (6.1.B.2)
• Offside Rear Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings chassis leg (6.1.B.2)

It has now had three passes but is this going to cause me issues as I want to buy a keeper.

Any advice really appreciated.

It really depends on how it's been repaired. At one extreme, if it's had a new galvanised then there will be little to worry about. At the other, it's been patched up with filler and underseal and is a time bomb. The reality is probably somewhere in between with maybe some patch repairs or a new quarter rear chassis but it's the quality of the work that's important. A good repair can be perfectly fine for many years. Darren
