Defender 110 as a work vehicle
For the last six years l've been using a Defender 110 SW as my work vehicle.
l removed the folding rear seats and fitted a board to make a better load area.

Looking at my motoring expenses of the last decade or so revealed that changing to a Defender was a really good move financially.

My last van, a Transit Connect, bought new in 2008 for £14,000 and kept for six years.
Mileage 80,000
Sold for £4,000
Running expenditure £3,000 (excluding fuel)

56,000 mile 2005 Defender 110 bought in 2014 for £14,000.
Mileage in six years 70,000
Running expenditure £6,000

Currently worth around £18,000

Fuel costs, well the 110 does about 28mpg and the van did around 32mpg.

Obviously if most of my mileage was motorway, the Defender would make less sense, but for local journeys and the occasional motorway trip it's been great.

Another thing, the van began to give trouble after 80,000
The 110 is currently on 124,000 and all is good, no issues apart from routine maintenance and a bit of love.

I bet that driving the Defender puts a smile on your face, whilst driving the van didn't.

Too right it does, even after six years of driving it every day!
