good things spoken about alive tuning, BAS tuning (also in yorkshire) in fact from memory the maps that twisted use are from pete bell, or alive, cant remember which. might be Ian at IRB. One of them anyway, but twisted maps are not their own. |

the above mentioned offer inhouse tuning, too, so you don't need a fancy programming device and cables - which I think are actually quite handy as eg in case of a dealer software update or an insurance claim you could return the car to factory setting and/or tuned setting anytime you have to. Additionally it helps you with diagnosing problems via fault codes.
If I am not mistaken they are also a little cheaper if you don't need your own programming device to take home. For 470 I see no point in not going for the Alive or Bell tuning even at their place but then just putting the programming device in a drawer and forgetting about it. We are in Grimsby, only about an hour and a half away from Halifax, and we offer a really good forum user discount on all our tuning! Our RRP is £395+vat for a custom remap, but regular forum users will get 10% off this price.
No computers/emails/downloads/cables/goldfish/ black magic for you to deal with, as I can sort it all out for you, No problem! I can also check to see if you have the latest LR software version, and update it for free if required. I did this yesterday for another forum user's 2010MY Puma 90. 
There really is no substitute for a properly made bespoke remap. |

I have a remap from twisted on a 90 svx, I am very happy with it, big improvement everywhere and totally smooth.

i had mine done by angel tunning £250 . i had a td5 before that was quick . but the puma is a lot better it pulls like hell in 6th gear at 1500 . give them a ring they are very helpfull on the phone . we had 3 cars done and they done them for £200 each the tunes are taylor made for your car i had 3 put on mine before i was happy

If your going to buy a remap, I pays to use a company that specialises in the vehicle you have. There are many 'general' tuning companies that could do a remap for you, and they will almost certainly give you more power. However, since their knowlegde of a particular vehicle may be very limited, you will not see the results that a specialist could produce. Just because a company tells you they have tuned lots of these, it does not mean they know exactly what they are doing. My 9 year old son can find an injection map and make more power, but I wouldn't let him tune a car (not under the Alive name anyway!!!). There is so much more to it than that.
A specialist will have invested many tens of thousands of pounds (and hours of time) while developing their mapping for any one engine type. They would no doubt own the particular vehicle themselves to allow for further development, as things never stand still in this industry. I think most people on here know who the specialists are in Land Rover diesel tuning. There are only two companies I know of who have the depth of knowledge to properly disable the EGR on the Puma, and we are one of those! Just last week, I remapped a Renault Megane RS225, and it went very well indeed. However, I am not a Renault specialist and so the remap had it's limitations. I know a company that is a very highly regarded Renault specialist, and i am quite certain they could do more to make it even better, as they know what almost every byte of code does. It's their investment in product development for that marque that makes them a Renault specialist. The same is true for many other specialists, such as Thor (Nissan Skyline), Courtney (Vauxhall/Opel), Collins (Ford), and so on. Would you take a £200,000 Ferrari to someone who didn't specialise in them? Why would you with a £30,000 Defender? Nobody can be a specialist at everything, although some have the front to tell you they are! Dig a little deeper before deciding who you're going to spend your money with. It's sad, but I have had to put right many cars that have been remapped, but not properly set up. As an example, I recently had a defender Td5 in that ran well in warm weather, but would then play up in the cold, as a map had been changed that threw everything else out! That remap was made by a company mentioned recently on this forum. This customer had already paid for this remap, but had to pay me for another, but at least he now knows it's right. People often don't realise the complexity of what we do, and when presented with a product that looks the same ( a remap is just a remap, isn't it? ), why should they spend so much to have the work done by a high profile specialist, when you can buy a remap off eBay for £175, and they'll do it on your driveway!?  |
