Magnetic sump plugs. Are they worth fitting?
I have been meaning to change all the oils in my recent purchase, a 300tdi 90.

I want to keep this truck so want to treat it well and do what I can to preserve it. With this in mind, is it worth fitting magnetic sump plugs? Obviously I need to get these before I change the oils, so looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Also, which plugs and where to get them. And also please mention any that should be avoided.

Many thanks.

Mick

The sump should have a magnetic plug as standard but I fit them to axles and gearboxes as a matter of course. Every little helps. Darren

The transfer box and R380 already have them fitted as standard.

Order 2x TYB500120 for the axle drains, only a couple of pounds each.

If early 300tdi sump with non flanged sump plug, stainless steel magnetic sump plug off eBay item number eBay Item No. 282176292242 is excellent.

Likewise, minimal cost involved. Rgds.

fitted a complete set to mine recently. I think I'll only see the benefit when i do the next oil change. For the cost involved I think it's a small price for something I hope will show I don't need them.

Magnetic drain plugs are great. The only problem is they can sometimes send you into an instant panic mode. When you take the plug out just remember those immortal words of Corporal Jones - "Don't panic, don't panic". Rolling with laughter Defender 90XS SW
