Defender 110 7 seater - Not able to slide 2nd row seat back
Hi all,

Purchased a Defender 110 7-seater (2023) a couple of months back. I can't seem to remember if it's always been like this but for some reason I'm not able to slide the left hand side second row seats all the way back. There is a small gap compared to the seat on the right hand side which does go all the way back. Is this per design or is something wrong? Would love if anybody with a 110 7-seater could confirm.

Many thanks,
Erik

Something's wrong. Maybe a stone in the rail?

7 seat owner here.

You should definitely be able to slide both the 40:60 sections backwards and forwards fully, as well as recline them and fold flat (they lock into place with a bit of gentle persuasion/jumping up and down on them!). Usually I run the 60:40s as far back as I can to give passengers more room. But in case of larger loads or 3rd row passengers, I move the middle row forward.

In terms of trouble shooting - I'd recommend playing with the 3 different seat levers to see if you can't release what sounds like a stuck seat base adjustment locking mechanism:

OPTION 1: The usual sliding adjustment lever is a big bar underneath the front of the seat cushion. The double seat section can be a little stiff to operate when standing outside the vehicle, so you might just need to hop in, sit in the double seat, reach down for the lever and and use those leg muscles to slide it backwards/forwards.

OPTION 2: Another option is to use the TOP lever in the shoulder section of the seat - near the door pillar. This is normally used to fold the seatback forward and slide the base to gain access to the third row. But it does allow you to slide the seat base backwards and forwards and then fold the seatback up to lock it in position. If option 1 isn't working very well, this could be used as a workaround. OR it could help identify the issue - if neither option 1 or 2 slide the seatbase forwards/backwards I'd give option 3 a go.

OPTION 3: The lever down to the side of the seatbase is for folding the seat completely flat for loading. Though this wouldn't adjust the location of the seatbase, it is linked to the seatback folding mechanism, which in turn is linked to the seat base slide in Option 2... So it might be worth trying to fold the seats flat and back up again a couple of times. This might resolve something in the mechanism which isn't quite working as it should.

If it's a relatively new vehicle, it could be some of the mechanisms are sticking a bit due to heavy grease or lack of use. I would try playing with options 1,2,3 a little in the hopes the mechanisms free up a bit. Failing that, the dealer should be able to help.

I have a 7 seater 110.
I agree with what XplusYplusZ said above.

The sliding mechanism does get stiff on the '60' of the 60:40 side, so it might need some strong persuasion. I find the easiest way is to sit in the 2nd row and then depress the bar and slide forwards and backwards. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof
