Flatdog roof bars - fitting advice please
Hi. Recently purchased the above and just got round to fitting them today. No instructions in the box and unable to get hold of anyone at flatdog....... I’ve managed to work most of it out by downloading the Rax fitting instructions but I have a couple of questions regarding fitting the clamps to the gutters:

Is there a technique to ensure the feet / clamps remain flush to the gutter when tightening as one end always appears to pull out slightly.

There’s also a grub screw - I assume you tighten that at the end once the bolts are tight?

Any views on how tight the bolts need to be? I’m just wary of over tightening.

Thanks!

Maybe you are over tightening them, causing them to twist? Not noticed mine pulling away.

They way I do it, and this may be wrong as I had no instructions either, is as follows:

Set the feet in the gutters and make sure they up against the lip.

Put the clamp in place and snug the grub screws up to hold them there.

Put the nut and washers on tighten and them down until they are tight, but no need to swing on them.

Give the grub screw a an extra nip up to make sure it won’t come loose.

You might want to put electrical tape to protect the paint before you start. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I used 2mm neoprene rubber strips on mine before fitting which protects the paint and stops movement. They’ve been in place for about 6 years and never had a single issue. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

When I fit mine, the angled mounting brackets are only lightly nipped up to the actual cross bar. The grub screws loose in their threads. I measure from a fixed point (front/rear corners) to ensure I'm placing each bar perpendicular to the roof gutter. I tighten each clamp onto the gutter using some old bicycle innertube offcuts to protect paintwork before I then fully tighten the gutter mount angle brackets to the cross bar. Finally I nip up the grub screws.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate the input.

I’ll try fitting again in the morning and now feel much more confident!
