Rear door lock - 2003 TD5 90
How do I change the lock barrel in my 90?

I have done both front doors and fitted a new steering ignition lock, because the old locks were seized and the ignition lock was temperamental. I’d really like to fit a new matching barrel to the rear door.

Many posts refer to a brass pin to push in on the outside of the casing, and pull it out with the key. I have cleaned all the crud off and cannot see a pin to push in. It looks like the lock assembly is fixed together with rivets, do I need to drill these out?

Puzzled at the moment!

depends on the age of the door/lock.

Earlier versions have a short barrel and there is a hole in the outer tube that houses the barrel. You poke something into the hole and depress the plunger allowing the barrel to slide out.

Later locks use a longer barrel and, as a result, the plunger is much further into the tube. This means that the hole is actually inside the lock mechanism and you have to access it through the slot in the top of the mechanism where the central locking lever would/does come through. On this type you can remove the barrel without removing the lock mechanism although you still need to remove the door card.

Ok that’s great, thanks very much. I must have the later type. It’s all back together now, but will whip the door card off again tomorrow. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Pretty sure your hole to release the cylinder is corroded over. Have a closer look and drill it out if needed. Thumbs Up Good luck

Would never have thought or seen that, now I can leave the drill on the shelf. Laughing
