Front Door Sill Protectors

Hi all,

In the process of tidying up the side sills as they were looking a tad scruffy.

To finish it al off I have just ordered a set of the stainless sill protectors for the front doors. However, I have just read that if I have the uprated 2011> bottom door deals, if these protectors are not stepped (ie like the ones from 4x4 Overland) then it will foul or break the fastner clips on the new seals.

Can anyone confirm this is the case, or will I 'get away with it'!! Hope so!

Well I fitted front ones with those door seals under the carpet and it was fine.
The back door ones on the other hand....

It's just the front ones I am doing so I hope it will be OK. They are ordered now so I will see how they fit and if need be I will have to bite the bullet and get the stepped ones - but ever the optimist!!

Cheers, will do. It will be a week or so as I am refurbing the sills etc as well. Good or bad I will post some pics!!!

I bought the front and rear door sill protectors from 4x4 Overland. No issues with the fronts fouling the door seal. Rear door seal has been letting in small amounts of water but nothing major. Overall quality product and a worthy upgrade.

Hi Stephan,

Exactly, the ones I have ordered before I read the info on the sills fouling the rubber seal fixings are the standard, right angle non-stepped ones, so I hope they will still be OK.

If not I will have to order the stepped ones like yours.

Hi,

Realised I hadn't posted these in this post as promised. Used the non-stepped ones in the end. Very happy with the results, no fouling of the bottom door seal clips and the doors still shut well, so all in all very happy

Certainly has smartened it all up.

Can I ask if you have any soundproofing under the mats on the front seat boxes? I’ve fitted a similar right angle kit and having bother getting doors to shut properly.

Hi mate,

No, I dont have any soundproofing on the outer of the seatbox, just the heavy duty matting from Wright Offroad, which is approx. 10mmm thick and does the job well. I put my silentcoat on the inside of the seat boxes to stop the vibration a little.

I did make sure the sills were up as tight as they could be to the seat box etc.

At the same time as installing the treadplates, I also put on new genuine door seals and the upgraded bottom door seals. The doors shut fine to be honest, you do have to give them a 'confident' pull otherwise it takes a couple of goes, but certainly wouldn't say I have to slam them or anything.

Hi Chris, yep very helpful. Think you’ve confirmed I’ll need to get the seats out, remove the soundproofing and stick some inside the boxes instead. Thanks for the reply!

Hi, yep I guess it depends how thick the soundproofing is, but with the Wright Offroad system being so thick there is just no room for any extra on the outside. I would recommend this over the standard Hardura stuff or carpet without hesitation. it means you don't need the metal edge corner protectors either.

I just put silentcoat on the inner walls of the seat boxes, then some on the underside of the sliding access trays and this has made a big diference.

With LR tolerences, I think they will all be a bit different!
