Revisiting Exhaust Options
I have spent the last couple of days reading back through the various threads/posts on replacement stainless steel exhausts. Before I make a decision, I just wanted to take a snapshot of peoples views and my own thoughts/likes/dislikes. It seems that the field is narrow based on my readings.

I really want the final look to be reasonably anonymous from a visual (tailpipe) point of view if at all possible.

Twisted - look decent quality but seems to be more sections that need bolting together.

Griffin - not hugely keen on their fit arrangements and bracket system - I understand they do a 'logo delete' on the tailpipe?

Alive - seem to get lots of good feedback, looks std. and gets rid of some weight, currently my front runner.

Should I be considering any others before I make the purchase? Rgds.

Chris

I’ve got a twisted cat back straight through on a 2.2tdci. It looks anonymous, is very well made and sounds great. Not loud at all despite having no silencers, but sounds very smooth compared to the old one. No more sections than standard exhaust.

I’m about 10 miles north of York if you wanted a look, although I’m about 6 miles south of twisted so you might as well go all the way there!

I have done lots and lots of homework on this, yesterday I ordered a full 2.5”, cat shell down pipe, with sports centre silencer and a standard rolled end from Demand Engineering, I spoke to Dan (the owner) and can’t praise him enough, fantastic knowledge and a quality system from pipe to hangers. I’m really fussy and always put lots of effort in before making a decision. Lots of good feedback for them too.

Initially I wanted a 3” from Griffin but tried to contact James on many occasions but never had a reply.
I was also advised that on occasions the 3” can cause the turbo to over spool and cause issues.
This is the reason I went for the 2.5” 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

TBH - we are not that far from Twisted!.

I spoke to them a couple of days ago and they seemed pretty switched on etc.

The anonymous look is important top me. Rgds.

I ordered a full Demand exhaust at the beginning of this week..

Twisted i believe, buy them in.
I asked Griffin if he’d do v-band clamps, he came back with ‘flanged clamps are £30 extra’... well that wasn’t what i asked for.

So I went with Demand... now we wait.

Thanks guys.

Not hugely bothered if they are fabricated 'in house', it's more about the finished fit and end result.

I am pretty much leaning towards Twisted ATM. Rgds.

I have a Twisted system on my 300tdi which has been on for 15yrs now, excellent piece of Engineering and still in excellent condition.
Had a look again at Twisted for my 2.2 Puma but then thought I would look at other options for comparison.

I actually found the company who make Twisted systems and laughed when they gave me a quote which was over £200 dearer than buying from Twisted themselves ( I understand the concept of bulk purchasing and owning the Patent / Design )

However, I ended up buying a full system ( cat back ) from Demand Engineering, had a really interesting conversation with Dan, a hilarious bloke in my opinion. He took time to listen to what I wanted and steered me in the right direction.
I went for the silencer option.

What is now lying on the garage floor ( to be fitted at the weekend) is a thing of beauty, I almost don’t want to put it on the vehicle ( but I will 😬 )
He wasn’t offended when I asked for the tailpipe to be free of his company logo.

Half the price of the Twisted system and comes recommended from other forum members...

I fitted a CAT back exhaust from Demand Engineering during lockdown to my 2013 TDCI 20kmiles. It came in two parts with a small silencer in the centre section - very well made and excellent value for money!!
Overall it is very impressive. The noise from the exhaust hasn't changed much but is slightly deeper. However the main benefit is is engine performance which now feels liberated - more low down torque and improved fuel economy. Highly recommended

But if they are made by Demand, that could be quite a saving on one bought from Twisted. They’re not famous for being the cheapest. Even if it’s just enough for some beers or dinner with SWMBO. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I must say that I love my twisted (See above), and I got a good deal on it, but if I was to but again I’d go with demand. They look to be just as good quality, but much better value than the rrp of twisted.

Thanks everybody - I have made contact with Demand to ask a couple of Q's, not heard back yet.

Will have a ponder for the next couple of weeks before I place an order. Rgds.

Dan at Demand is in demand! His workshop manager has handed his notice in recently and running a bit behind than normal plus he’s really busy.....well worth the wait though, I’m looking forward to trying mine out! Very Happy

He told me when I spoke to him that he was being inundated with e mail and telephone requests and
apologised for the delay in returning my call ( 2 days - not an issue as far as I was concerned )
Also that because of lockdown he was seeing a huge increase in customers turning up in person looking for quotes
And work requests.

As others have said, be patient, you will definitely not regret the slight wait.

Even with the increase in his workload, from phone call to delivery was 7 days and I think that is quite impressive
For a product that was specifically custom made for me.
