Powerful UK ~ Riveting a new Defender
I'm certain he's really taking the Censored out of the vehicle, his local dealer & JLR. There must be a back story somewhere.

He does have a point though, some parts appear very flimsy, some seem impossible to remove without breaking other parts in the process, and generally, most of the exterior trim panels seem to be able to be pulled off without any real tools.

He managed to break part of the silver bit on his front bumper trying to take it off. TBH is don’t understand why they are removing some of the bits that they are taking off. What are they developing that might require removal of the few tire front of the car?
Rivets? He’s talking about a template to help locate where to drill the holes for them them, I would be tempted to just paint white fake rivets on........ way less hassle Laughing but what’s the point of upsetting Gerry’s lovely clean black trim? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Bit of 'trolling' going on there methinks.

Clearly they are looking at what they can produce and sell and it will involve a bit of dismantling and investigation.

Stopped watching when they tried maximum range with an empty tank on a different clip. This is the reason JLR doesn't sell manual diff locks and gearboxes anymore, knowing some people have little technical & financial sympathy. Their dealer must be on anti depressants 24/7.

I imagine that once he'd broken the panels on both sides, rivets were an ironic way of making them usable again. He already has a replacement panel for the nearside and said that the panels aren't expensive.

I imagine also that some parts are coming off just to find out how they are assembled and if they can be dismantled. Those rear panels, which apparently cannot be removed without them breaking, are a depressing reminder of how far away from its roots this new vehicle is, with throw-away parts rather than maintainable parts.

And with that approach, people (most the time) get the service they deserve. I knew dealers they would tell tyre kickers and other time wasters in their face to buy a Toyota instead. m

Premium, durability aren't the two words that spring to mind when looking at how some of the exterior panels are fixed. The engineering would appear to have more in common with Fisher Price than what's gone before.

Having said that, the hot plastic glue/weld contact areas on those quarter panels looked far too small for the job they should have been doing.

What a Joke that LR still can't build a new vehicle in 2020 where the panels line up uniformly. Can you Imagine a Toyota owner having the same issue? Let's hope the new MD knows how to get to the bottom of JLR's awful systemic quality issues.

Looks like it could be an expensive job to change a bulb then if you follow JLR's instructions.

The upper trim piece is likely going to snap as it did on theirs (£38.90 to replace) and/or the surrounding bodywork is going to get damaged as you try to lever off the trim (unless you are very careful).

Strange that JLR tell you to remove the upper panel if the lighting panel can be removed without messing with the upper panel.

Does anyone know if the lighting unit has conventional bulbs or are they all LEDs that may not be replaceable individually?

They are all LEDs
