Rear Diff and Transfer box recomendations
Old so My old truck has reached 100K miles Very Happy

Oldest, slowest, most millage car I have had (as a daily) but I love it Rolling with laughter

The rear diff is whining quite a lot and the back lash when you lift off is getting noticeably more..

the guys who service it reckon obviously being a Land rover it will go on for another 100K and probably just get a bit louder..however I could get a 'new' recon diff and transfer box.

Question...

Who and what is recommended. I'm tempted to keep as it was if it lasted 100K

Then, while its all apart (and the clutch is ok) what else is worth changing?

Nothing happening straight away as its got a road trip soon Smile

It'll be properly run in soon, if it's reached 100k. Laughing

Are you sure that it's the diff, I'd be surprised unless it's heavily abused it'd warrant a replacement after 100k. OK it was a Salisbury when when I took it out to replace with a P38 Ash Locker all of the backlash in that was half-shafts, after 180k. OK wasn't whining but that might just be a bearing.

Diffs I'd whole heartedly recommend Nige (Xcess 4x4). Not the best at responding to emails but good on the phone or Facebook. Ed

I've noting to compare it to as have not driven another but over my 50 odd thousand miles I have done it it, its definitely louder, you get to know your own car Smile Its not had a hard life since I have had it... pampered pet more like. We use it but look after it, many long road trips and camping trips but very little towing.

As the garage said it would probably do another 100K like it is.... I can jump in my Series do 20 miles in that and then the 110 feels quite and almost luxury Rolling with laughter

Just looking at options, I get the feeling this car is going no where so I don't mind making it quite (er).... for me.

Thumbs Up
