Alarm woes
Done a search and tried all what I can find. Any help appreciated.

The symptoms - no response from alarm when pressing lock or unlock ( Lucas 10). I've checked all fuses, changed battery in fob, attempted the fob resync, disconnected the 2 multi plugs into the green box. If I try to start vehicle I get power to dash but obviously immobiliser. Hazards work on the switch. What else can I try?

Do the indicators work on the switch? Short inside there can take out feed to the immobiliser. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Are you sure the fuses are good? I had a similar situation except on mine the immobiliser didn’t kick in, the alarm wouldn’t arm or disarm, I’d checked the fuses and every connection, changed battery’s in the fob a few times and even bought a new alarm ecu ready to swap. I decided to just have one last look around everything before I paid for reprogramming the new ecu and found one of the fuses had the slightest crack that you couldn’t actually see and I only found it after using an electrical tester across all the fuses. Ray

Stripped out the 10AS box tonight and rechecked fuses and still nothing but when i plugged box back in the alarm triggered. Purely by chance I had the fob next to the box and when I pressed the fob the alarm stopped. Long story short there is something jamming the signal as the fob works fine when the vehicle is away from home.

Not that unusual actually. I had months of trouble with my Disco 2 when the county plod went live with Airwave, it would start perfectly everywhere except on my drive. Eventually I borrowed some kit from work which suggested a malfunctioning tetra cell was the problem. One email to Hutchison who ran the network (and who said it couldn't possibly be their network) and the problem disappeared.

As above, check your fob batteries.
If the fob works close to the 10AS box, check that the aerial is attached and the wire is intact along its length

If it is a geographical problem and occurs only on your drive it will be an interference problem and may be extremely local, moving the vehicle as little as 20 feet may make a difference.

Have you extended the aerial for the 10AS? If so, you may even find that undoing the modification may help, since it de-sensitises the receiver.

If it is an interference problem it may, unfortunately be very hard to resolve. Look for strange antennae in your neighbourhood which may indicate the presence of cellular comms, Tetra, Airwave, etc., since a malfunctioning cell can cause this. Do you have any radio hams nearby?

This kind of interference affecting UK car access systems is a reasonably widespread and known phenomenon. With my Disco 2 it was a real PITA since the procedure to use the EKA to enter a Disco 2 and de-immobilise it without the fob is time-consuming and involves standing outside the car for several minutes but for a very precise period of time. An absolute sod when it is raining hard!

Thanks for the replies. At the moment everything has gone back to normal but I will be asking around to see if anyone has recently bought some electronic devices that emit a radio signal.

The fact that it's suddenly working again also suggests an RFI problem. Hopefully whoever was causing it has fixed the problem and it won't recur.
