Exhaust centre silencer alternative
Afternoon all,
I'm looking to replace my centre box on a 2003 90 with something more free flowing, a delete pipe is not an option for me as it's way too loud/boomy for my tinnitus ears, however i'm not prepared to pay the 300+ quid asking price for an off the shelf jobby, so was just wondering if anyone has found an alternative?
cheers

I deleted the middle one and kept the rear siliencer. I don't find it to much noise.

Allisport and Demand engineering both do a "bullet" mid box roughly £170.

Ive got a decat, bullet mid box, straigh thru 3" rear pipe and i drive 75m a day mixed motorway. Instagram @defender_ventures

Thanks, I'd looked at the allisport one but it's now 279 plus the dreaded, so I dropped my silencer delete pipe with a local exhaust maker to add a straight through silencer to. They rang 5 mins ago to say it's done for the ripe old price of £45! I'll post back piccies when I collect it tomorrow

I know they do really quality stuff, but that seems to be a bit steep!

To be honest.... when I built my Td5 110 some years back, I had a stainless V8 "sports" rear section kicking about from a previous V8 110 (Rimmer brothers one, was good) so I fitted that. It had just one silencer. Exhaust was nice, turbo whistle etc. but a bit boomy on a run.

Eventually I got fed up with the boom and refitted a bog standard system.... engine/vehicle performance remained exactly the same. Ears were happier though.

Well, collected and fitted now, very happy as it is sufficiently quiet whilst pottering along and you get a nice 5 cylindered growl when you hoof it.
I wouldn't say the boom has entirely gone, but it is far less pronounced and i can live with that, i'll also be able to start it up early morning without waking the dead!
Looks like a good job, see attached
BTW I am in no way affiliated or connected to the exhaust work shop, they've just done a good job at a good price Thumbs Up

UPDATE
Having now ran it for a good few hundred miles , i can say i'm pleased. Cruises on the motorway happily with no added noise unless you accelerate hard, happy pottering around town with a satisfying burble. With the money i've saved i've now got to get to the bottom of the problem of it hesitating/missing when the conditions are wet...so much for saving money! Big Cry
