There are some nice “cheap” plates available on the DVLA website - this pair were DVLA cheapest

The Defender’s one can be read two ways too - a statement or a question.......
I also have another NE14 MUD on retention but felt TH14 MUD might be one plate too many Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

There was a muck away company in Norfolk that had a fairly large fleet of 4 axle tipper trucks all with 'MUD' number plates.

They went bankrupt a few years back but have no idea whether the number plates were ever sold on or retained on the trucks when they got sold / went back to the leasing company?

I still think that KN03 BED is one of my favourites. It used to be on a blue Defender but now on a VW.

I wonder if Kahn has reduced the price of F1 yet. I seem to recall that he was asking £12m but not sure if that included a free Bugatti Veyron. Defender 90XS SW

There's one that keeps going round and round on eBay which is A110 CSW. It's a nice idea for the right vehicle but it's up for £13,000. As I say, it's going round and round... Darren

Wanted to buy the reg DE70NDR but says you can only put it on cars registered from September 2020. Never owned a private plate before so didn’t know you cant have certain ones.

Mr11... basically you cannot make a car look younger than it is. So for example if your car is a '10' plate you can put any plate on to it up to and including ##10###, so that includes old style 123###, ###123, ###123#, #123### and all new styles
##51### up to ##10### but you cannot put anything ##60### or newer, so 60, 11, 61,12 etc etc.

So ##20### can only go an a current reg vehicle and the ##70### that you mention, will only be able to go an a new car registered after 1st Sept 2020.

So in my case I have L90### on, funnily enough, my 90. It is a 1993 L-reg so that was all fine, but a couple of years later I got the chance of a 1992 (K) 90, which on balance was slightly better condition than mine, but I let it go because I wanted to keep my plate.

The same is true for the old style plates - my 1996 90 is on the private plate P12 MUD, it originally had a standard P plate on it . The previous owner had it on a very nice D** DEF plate which he put on retention before he traded the car in and then used on his new car. Neither of us could have put an R or later plate on it.
One thing i don’t understand is PowerfulUK’s plate ST19 THE, to have it read more like what it was intend to they could have bought ST16 THE but that is either already assigned or it’s in the catalogue for the periodic auctions of nice plates and likely to be valued quite highly, certainly more than £280.
Also bear in mind that the DVLA uses “popularity” software to calculate the prices of plates - if a load of people start looking at certain series of plates then, like RyanAir and EasyJet, the price of that series of plates increases due to demand..........

The plate L663 DEF or even A663 DEF might be nice to search for if they aren’t assigned - L663 being the model designation for the New Defender internally at JLR Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

None, they are issued in Scotland except in the years when they make rude words........ when we get T as the first letter!
SH17 and SN07 series were never issued - ST19 I think they want people to read as STIG as in the TG driver....... Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

^^ Precisely.

I have never understood the need for a vanity plate, mostly they don't work unless the spacing is altered illegally or screws are used illegally, and even then very often they only work if either you've smoked crack or someone explains them to you. To me it is just a fairly effective form of voluntary taxation and one which I prefer to avoid (not as effective as the National lottery, the most effective voluntary tax yet conceived).

I am not criticising those who feel the need, each to his own, and your contributions to DVSA are helping to keep mine down! Go for it! Thumbs Up
