My friend's 2003 Td5 starts first time then dies after a second ?

No, unlikely in this case. No whining pump, and these were done not the long ago.

I’m thinking immobilised or earthing issue ?

Anyone have any ideas on how to check for immobiliser faults with Nanocom ?
