[For Sale] Any interest in a 6x6 Range Rover TACR Project
I am not fully up on the details of this as it was bought by my other half but we are going to have to sell it on as other projects are more pressing!

This is a very early prototype TACR2 based upon a 3door Range Rover built by HCB Angus on a Carmichael Commando 3 axle chassis. It served with the RAF for a number of years (we have the original RAF reg and some info). It was then used at Redhill airfield.

What makes it fairly unusual is that it was converted to 6-wheel-drive during its time at redhill as I believe rules were changed that all airfield crash vehicles had all wheels driven. The third axle was originally just for load carrying capacity. It is a very unusual conversion which uses a dropbox from the PTO takeoff on the back of the gearbox (LT95 so no separate transfer box) which drives a separate propshaft to the rear axle, thus no through drive diff. The dropbox has a dogclutch allowing it to be engaged from inside the vehicle.

The front body is obviously a 3door range rover classic but when built by HCB Angus the front doors were shortened and a second row of doors fitted behind.

The engine that is in it is a 3.5 V8 carb which judging by the colour is an MOD recon unit. The vehicle has only done very low mileage regardless.

It is on a UK 1981 registration plate with V5 and is still registered as a fire appliance which currently means it is MOT and Tax exempt.

It is an unfinished project, before we moved house it had been repainted in original Olive Drab, fitted with new brakes, refurbed rostyle wheels, tyres, alarm/immobiliser etc but it has sat idle since then. It spent a couple of years in storage in a museum collection but was then vandallised. The damage is fairly minor (smashed screen and a few dents/scratches on the bonnet and scuttle). I fitted a new windscreen at the time to keep the worst of the weather out. It did run and drive about 3 years ago when we moved it to the driveway although it desperately needed a carb rebuild (Zenith CD175). It comes with the majority of its original fire fighting equipment including the very rare hand-held foam nozzles and still has all of the pump-gear fitted although we have never got as far as testing this out. It still has the majority of the mains add-ons which include an engine pre-heater, fan heater and ducting to stop the tank freezing and battery charging, i have not dared to try any of these systems out.

It does not have its original seats as these were beyond salvage but has been fitted with some Discovery 1 front seats which fit fine (never had any proper leg room).

It is obviously a project vehicle and requires quite a lot of work to complete but the chassis and body are more or less totally free from corrosion which is obviously rare. It would really benefit from a full rewire of the body electrics as they have seen so many modifications throughout its life they are a pain.

Can provide plenty more information if anyone is at all interested but really just gauging interest, we were thinking around the £4k mark though. It seems a real shame to have to break it for parts otherwise.

It can also come with a full 14CUX hotwire setup to convert to EFI if required. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Excuse the weeds, replacing the fuel hoses on the strimmer is one of the jobs for the bank holiday Whistle

The nozzles and stuff is all boxed up in the loft (along with the protective clothing). The front currently has the caravan awning being stored in it too.

Third picture shows the only bit of rust i can see at the moment where the battery had leaked.

Sweet Thumbs Up

These things are cool when set up correctly. I dropped a 3.9efi into mine as the engine was toast when I got it from auction. Empty she would do 90mph where legally allowed.

If you get no luck here, PM me and I will let the guy who runs the 6 wheel RAF fire appliance group know.

I might have been interested but I have my own project on right now.

We havent seen another in the flesh. There arnt many of these based on a 3dr. I think it was because it was built on a 3dr body/chassis then turned into a 4door so the front doors were shortened. I guess there was no room for a window mech anymore. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread
