Amp install (lock down update) with my old gear I found
Hello

So I have found my old amp and stuff during lockdown.

I've put together the ground, power and remote turn on, on one side of the amp (on the bench)

Then the RCA's which I assume go as I have put them.

The RCA cable to front of car goes to head unit, however the small wire from each end what does that do? I cannot remember.

Edit....is it s combined remote turn on lead? I'm guessing it is.

Yep, it's the amp remote switch.

Have you tried those 5.25" speakers in the dash yet, to see how easy it would be to fit them??? Very Happy

No I didn't try them in the front before I fitted, put the 5 1/4 in the back, easy to re-trim the back bits... sound much better.

Been looking on the web, the 5 1/4 in the front means cutting the dash and slightly trimming the fuse box door.

Doable but 10cm ones will fit straight in, so not sure what to do.

have you 5 1/4 in the front? realistically would I notice the difference.... for sake of ease.

Thumbs Up

Yes, I was first to reply to your other thread about 5" speakers, with a link to mine about fitting them.

In my opinion it was worth it, a 5" will always give a fuller sound with more bass than a 4".
I was very sceptical about cutting the dash, but it worked out and the Focal 5" was on special at £120 less than the 4" at the time, so that made my mind up. Laughing

The actual size of the grilles and magnets will determine how easy the job is.

I've been looking at the Rockford fosgate range...

They don't do a 4" with seperate tweeter, just a 5.25 model.

will have to compare the size with the K2 Focals they look pretty deep (big magnets)

cheers

Answered your own question. Yes, it's the Remote 12v RMT switching feed.
Be sure to in-line fuse it at the back of your HU, ideally at about 200mA using a glass cartridge fuse. Otherwise if there was a short although unlikely could pop your HU. Which would not be good!

Some RCA’s have in-built RMT like you have, others separate like I opted for. They all do the same job though. Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

Thanks Steve

It seemed odd as I had a separate Remote turn on wire in the pack of my old stuff which I would have used, so don't think I ever used this? just the RCA leads. but good to know (and about the fuse) Thank you.

I've also sent you a PM Steve Thumbs Up

Thanks

Ok so Car apart (again)

Wire's everywhere.

I've decided to use the headunit 3 sets of RCA, front , rear and sub so I should be able to control the Front / Rear balance etc.

I had two sets but have needed to order another, I don't have a sub as yet or second amp for it but thought while its apart I might as well put all the wires in.

Just been running new speaker wire in the front over lunch almost done the left and right Smile

I think its going to be fun pushing the head unit back in with all the wires. Then will start with the rear speaker cables.

I will need to tidy all the wires up and may have to fit a couple of PC fans as its going under the passenger seat, Saying that the cars in the sun today and its silent coated in the battery box where the amp is and its freezing inside... so maybe ok

Good job I don;t need to use the car Thumbs Up

(Thanks again Custom90 Steve) for advice
