Dipped headlights intermittently going off
First time I have used vehicle needing the lights.

When on dipped only they intermittently go off. Both of them. When they do go off, rear lights and side lights remain on. Main beam and flash both work as they should. Operating main beam or flash does not have any influence on bringing dipped lights back on.

Sometimes they are off for 30s sometimes 2s, time variation makes no odds driving or stationary.

I am assuming as majority of lighting circuit continues to work that its linked to the high beam stalk? Grateful for comments please. Cheers

Almost certainly melted terminals in the high beam stalk. Darren

Sorted, you were right it was on the stalk. Dry joint on back of main light feed in to stalk.

Top tip, font take the stalk off the metal bracket without knowing what goes where for it to go back together! Took a while to work it out. Cheers

Umm, could I ask a stupid question please?? When you say ‘dry’, what do you actually mean? And how did you sort it?

I have this happening to my 90 and I’ve never touched car electrics in my life Embarassed

The live feed cable for the lights comes in on a cable to a pin on the back of the stalk. The pin is attached to a metal plate. Operation of the stalk sends the live feed from pin and hence plate to one of two outputs. In my case the pin was conducting to the plate. I put a lump of solder between the two. Cheers

A "dry joint" is the term applied to a solder joint which has been poorly made and the solder hasn't "run", ie melted and flowed, between the parts to be connected.
