Clutch - manufacturers
My '07 Puma is in need of a new clutch (it will be its third) since it is rattling badly now.

Looking online, new clutch kits of the latest spec (pn LR012199) seem to be either Genuine Parts at around £250, or AP Driveline (formerly Borg & Beck) at about £125.

Borg & Beck used to make all the world's clutches and was a firm with an excellent reputation, so an APD clutch should be every bit as good as a LR one - APD may even make Genuine Parts ones for all I know!

So, is it a bad move and false economy to fit a APD clutch at half the price of a LR one? Should I bite the bullet and get the Genuine Parts clutch?

Opinions gratefully received please!

B+B will be fine ..... thats all we fit to Transits now, a few of which spend their life towing compressors and mini diggers.
Stopped fitting genuine [ford] units as B+B's were lasting longer Very Happy Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Thanks. D-H, useful to know that.

Grockle - I use it for just about everything! At the moment I am doing about 750 miles per week (which means about £250 of fuel Big Cry ) with nigh on a ton of tools in the back getting to and from a remote work site in Devon. Also sometimes tow anything up to 3.5 tons.

When not doing that it is usually hauling steam loco or crane parts, or railway track tools and components.

It had the first replacement clutch at first service (for first owner) due to death rattle, but the replacement then was the same inadequate design not the revised part, and the death rattle is now back.

Be aware of some clutches offered on e-bay.
I have bought one as new design but it was old. Janusz

Any idea why? On the face of it I don't see why this should make a difference to the clutch issue! If it does sort things out, it is an easy solution.

I don't suppose a Disco2 front prop fits?
