Fitting heated seats - advice required.

Afternoon all.

Cabin fever has settled in so decided to fit my Exmore Trim all singing and dancing heated seats and cubby box. They are finished in leather so I’m going to try not to mark or damage them 🙃

I’m after some advice re the wiring, I want to run them through a Blue Sea fuse box which I plan to put in the battery box or would I be better putting it behind the passenger seat on the tub bulkhead?

Switches- I would like to fit the switches in the front of the security cubby box, but my worry is drilling holes through the front leather surface. The Exmore switches are only 20mm dia. With a 2mm lip on them so how do make a perfect hole without murdering the leather?

And lastly, what type of battery terminal with extra take offs would people recommend so I can fit the fly leads to the Blue Sea fuse box.

For cutting through the leather use a punch. You can buy them in many sizes to suit, it will leave a nice clean cut. Drilling it could tear it all up. Ideally you want to go 2mm under the size of the switch, so you get a nice flush finish.

Once the leathers cut, drill the rest out. Best bet would be a forstener bit, cleaner than spade bits.

As for connecting your fuse box just use some battery cable with the right ring connectors. Theres enough space on the standard battery connectors to add some extra. In my 90, i mounted the fusebox behind the passenger seat on the bulkhead. Much easier than having it in the battery box. Instagram @defender_ventures

Thanks for the advice Bankz5152.

In the end I found a big washer with an 18mm hole in the middle and used that and a scalpel to cut the leather circle and a 20mm forstener bit to make the main hole. Job done.

Hi Disco-Micky.

That looks really neat, I did think about that location but decided that there may be a possibility of spilt drinks finding there way into the switches so went with the higher position.
